- OVERVIEW
- ALO is seeking a mid-to-senior level corporate attorney to play a foundational role in establishing and scaling ALO's business operations in Europe and the UK. This position requires a strategic, hands-on lawyer with corporate and commercial experience gained at a leading law firm and in-house, who is comfortable operating independently in a fast-moving environment with limited existing infrastructure. - ongoing legal support across all aspects of ALOs European and UK business.
- The position is an in-office role in [London or Paris].
- RESPONSIBILITIES
- Market Entry and Entity Establishment :
- Lead the legal workstream for establishing and/or maintaining ALO's corporate presence in Europe and the UK, including entity formation, business licensing, foreign investment approvals
- registrations with relevant government authorities.
- Coordinate with external counsel, tax advisors, and government affairs consultants to execute the market entry strategy.
- Commercial Contracts
- Draft, review, negotiate
- manage a wide range of commercial agreements to support ALO's European and UK operations, including vendor agreements, retail leases, distribution and logistics contracts, supply chain and warehousing contracts, brand collaboration agreements, professional services agreements and NDAs.
- Adapt ALO's global contract templates and playbooks for use in the local markets as necessary, ensuring compliance with local law and business practices.
- Work closely with legal support staff and the U.S. legal team to ensure all contracts are properly executed, tracked, and stored.
- Data Privacy and Regulatory Compliance :
- Advise on compliance with local laws and regulations applicable to ALO's business, including foreign investment, consumer protection, advertising and marketing, product labeling, import/export, anti-corruption and labor and employment.
- Oversee data privacy and cybersecurity compliance including cross-border data transfer requirements.
- Monitor regulatory developments that may affect ALO's operations and proactively advise the business on required changes.
- Intellectual Property :
- Manage ALO's trademark, copyright, and other IP registrations and enforcement efforts in Europe and the UK, working with local IP counsel as needed.
- Work with ALO’s brand protection team on brand protection strategies, including anti-counterfeiting measures.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration :
- Serve as the primary legal partner to ALO's European and UK business teams across retail, e-commerce, marketing, operations, and finance.
- Act as the bridge between ALO's U.S. headquarters legal team and local operations, ensuring alignment on global legal standards while adapting to local requirements.
- Communicate legal guidance clearly and practically to non-legal stakeholders, including those operating across languages and cultures.
- Vendor Management :
- Manage relationships with outside counsel and other external legal service providers and ensure their performance aligns with company expectations and standards.
- QUALIFICATIONS
- Law degree from a leading university and strong academic credentials
- Qualified to practice law in the UK or France (as applicable); admission to a U.S. state bar or qualification in another common law jurisdiction is a plus
- Five to eight years of relevant corporate and commercial legal experience, with a meaningful combination of work at a leading international law firm and in-house at a multinational company
- Experience negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements, including SaaS or other technology-related contracts
- Advanced knowledge of GDPR and other applicable data privacy and cybersecurity frameworks
- Experience with IP registration and brand protection is a plus
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required
- Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail and a strong work ethic
- Outstanding analytical and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Self-starter with ability to balance many projects simultaneously and complete tasks accurately, on schedule and with minimal supervision
- Willingness to take initiative and work flexible hours to accommodate collaboration with U.S.-based teams
