Trade Compliance Specialist Description - Trade Compliance is comprised of a team of compliance professionals focused on providing subject matter expertise on all core customs-related topics. This role requires close collaboration with global internal key stakeholders as well as working with relevant government agencies and regulatory bodies.

This role applies advanced subject matter knowledge to solve complex business issues and is regarded as a subject matter expert. Frequently contributes to the development of new ideas and methods. Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of multiple factors.

Leads and/or provides expertise to functional project teams and participates in cross-functional initiatives. Acts as a subject matter expert, providing direction and guidance to process improvements and establishing policies. Frequently represents the organization to external customers/clients.

Exercises significant independent judgment within broadly defined policies and practices to determine the best method for accomplishing work and achieving objectives. Provides mentoring and guidance to lower-level employees

Responsibilities

  • Applies advanced subject matter knowledge, leads, and contributes to complex projects, and exercises independent judgment in resolving business issues and establishing policies.
  • Provide guidance and support on core customs topics such as Origin, Classification, with an emphasis on Customs Valuation and tariff mitigation strategies such as First Sale for Export.
  • In addition, supports key projects and initiatives as needed/applicable.
  • Drive global strategies, processes, and guidelines related to core customs topics.
  • Collaborate with the regional Trade Compliance teams and HP business functions to maintain effective trade compliance procedures and processes in alignment with HP’s corporate customs compliance policies Monitor, review
  • interpret Customs regulations applicable to HP cross-regionally Provide advice and guidance to senior leadership and company personnel on the application of government import regulations for the countries in which HP operates.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, develop recommendations, and execute on recommendations.
  • Support internal and external audit commitments, including assessments, requests for information, process enhancements, and corrective actions.
  • Act as an escalation point for Global Trade regional customs topics, providing subject matter expertise and/or support.
  • Creation and delivery of compliance-focused training to Global Trade internal and HP functions.
  • Qualifications & Skills: 10+ years of global trade experience focusing on import and customs compliance activities Effective project management skills Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced and changing environment Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences and stakeholders Must be self-motivated and enjoy working in a global, multi-cultural environment Demonstrated ability to guide the implementation of International Trade compliance into global operations and supply chain models Proficiency in Microsoft applications Data analytics skills and basic proficiency in AI capabilities Growth mindset The pay range for this role is $135,000 to $165,000 USD annually, with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to United States of America candidates only.)
