Solus is a network of Aviva-owned auto body collision shops servicing our customers with multiple locations across Ontario and Quebec, and eventually nationally. Each site location is primarily an auto body collision repair shop with some office space, depending on size of building.
The main site location is in Mississauga, approx.50,000 sq ft. Operating within a fast-paced auto collision repair environment, the Health & Safety Manager will be accountable for leading all aspects of a Health & Safety program for Solus Canada which will be separate and distinct from Aviva Canada.
This includes building, implementing and leading a new Health & Safety Management System (HSMS) delivering on all required governance administration to align with the various provincial H&S regulations, Aviva Business Standards, Group standards, governance reporting and maintaining processes to meet audit and compliance standards associated with the H+S welfare for Solus Canada including all employees and visitors.
A key aspect of the position will be building strong relationships and effectively managing stakeholders across Solus Canada and Aviva Claims, including partnering with senior executives to drive safety initiatives, ensure regulatory compliance, and foster a strong safety culture throughout the organization
What You'll Do
- Design, develop and maintain a new HSMS within an autobody collision repair industry Investigate, assess and control safety incidents, hazards
- risks Design, develop and maintain training programs
- work with 3rd party providers for legislative training (e.g.
- First aid, JHSC Certification) Effectively communicate safety expectation and delivers training to improve awareness, compliance and safe work practices for autobody technicians and office workers Directs the Safety Committees (JHSC), safety representatives, the management team and Regional Team Leads in the administration, auditing and inspections required to meet local and Aviva Business Standard requirements.
- Support day-to-day activities and special projects.
- Conducts auto body shop visits across multiple locations, vendor reviews and health and safety audits/risk assessments/inspections.
- Works closely with HR, Risk, Facilities and site leaders to achieve total compliance of the HSMS.
- Escalate critical incidents upwards when appropriate Influence senior leadership, managers, technicians and employees to promote, support and engage in a proactive safety culture.
- Collaborate with Operations, HR and auto body shop management to address safety risks Deliver effective safety communication and employee engagement programs Prepare and present health & safety updates as required to Solus leadership team Promote a proactive safety culture through visible leadership, accountability and engagement Build strong partnerships across all levels of organization between Solus and Aviva Canada to drive safety initiatives and achieve business objectives What you'll bring: Bachelor’s degree Occupational H + S Certificate Bilingual preferred (English / French) First Aid Training A minimum 5 years progressive experience in a H&S management role.
- Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Experience in Automotive Repair sector preferred Project Management experience as asset.
- Health and Safety Legislation (Nationally) Health and Safety Management Systems Risk Analysis Demonstrates deep knowledge of occupational health, safety and environmental regulations Auto Repair sector processes Risk and regulatory compliance What you’ll get: The salary band for this position ranges from $90,000 to $120,000.
