Regular or Temporary: Regular Language Fluency: English (Required) Work Shift: 1st shift (United States of America) Please review the following job description: The Small Business Development Executive is a highly visible leadership role responsible for building and leading Truist's Small Business “BDO” organization. This executive will establish and scale a specialized, high-performing sales team focused primarily on acquiring new Small Business clients, accelerating market growth, and expanding Truist's presence across its geographic footprint. The role serves as the senior market-facing leader responsible for developing and executing client acquisition strategies across Small Business, Branch Banking, emerging Business Banking, Commercial Banking, and key product partners. The executive will own geographic “BDO” market performance, create strong partnerships across the enterprise, and ensure a coordinated "One Truist" approach to identifying, acquiring, onboarding, and deepening relationships with new business clients. The clients won through the “BDO” model will transition to the Business Connect team once embedded and will serve as a key driver of future core Small Business success. This leader will be responsible for developing a disciplined sales culture centered on prospecting, referral generation, Centers of Influence (COI) development, market coverage, pipeline management, and integrated relationship management. Success will be measured by new client acquisition, deposit growth, lending production, revenue generation, client retention, and overall market share expansion in “BDO” markets. Key Responsibilities New Client Acquisition & Market Expansion
  • Build and lead a specialized Small Business Development team focused on acquiring new Small Business clients and generating profitable growth.
  • Develop and execute market-specific strategies to increase client acquisition, market penetration, and wallet share.
  • Establish disciplined prospecting, calling, referral generation, and business development routines across the organization.
  • Build Centers of Influence (COI) networks, community relationships, and strategic partnerships that generate sustainable prospect pipelines.
  • Drive execution of sales campaigns and growth initiatives aligned to Small Business strategic objectives. “BDO” Market Leadership
  • Serve as the primary owner of assigned geographic markets for Small Business acquisition and growth beginning with Atlanta and Dallas.
  • Develop strong partnerships with Regional Presidents, Market Presidents, Branch Banking leaders, Commercial Banking leaders, and product executives.
  • Lead market planning activities to identify opportunities, assess competitive positioning, and allocate resources to maximize growth.
  • Ensure coordination across Small Business, Commercial Banking, Branch Banking, Wealth, Treasury Solutions, Insurance, and Capital Markets to deliver a seamless client experience.
  • Act as the market’s BDO escalation point for significant client opportunities and strategic relationships. Sales Leadership & Team Development
  • Recruit, develop, coach, and retain a best-in-class sales force capable of achieving aggressive growth objectives.
  • Create a high-performance culture emphasizing accountability, execution excellence, and client-focused relationship development.
  • Establish performance scorecards, sales management routines, forecasting disciplines, and pipeline governance.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and development to sales leaders and individual contributors.
  • Drive adoption of consultative sales practices, integrated relationship management, and lifecycle advisory approaches. Commercial & Emerging Commercial Integration
  • Partner closely with Small Business leaders – especially Head of Geographic Coverage, Commercial Banking and Branch teams to create effective client coverage and migration strategies.
  • Identify fast-growing Small Business clients that may benefit from Commercial Banking, Treasury, Consumer, Premier and Wealth
  • Ensure seamless client transitions as businesses grow while maintaining a consistent Truist relationship experience. Financial Performance & Revenue Growth
  • Own delivery of client acquisition goals, deposit growth, loan growth, fee income, and revenue targets.
  • Drive balanced performance across deposits, lending, treasury management, merchant services, wealth referrals, insurance referrals, and other strategic product solutions.
  • Monitor sales pipeline, conversion rates, productivity metrics, and market-level performance indicators.
  • Ensure efficient deployment of resources to maximize growth and profitability. Risk Management & Governance
  • Promote a strong risk culture while enabling responsible growth.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, credit, operational, and policy requirements.
  • Partner closely with Risk, Compliance, Credit, and Lending teams to maintain sound governance and portfolio quality.
  • Establish management routines that monitor performance, risk, and client outcomes. Qualifications Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related field.
  • 15+ years of Business Banking, Small Business, Commercial Banking, or Financial Services experience.
  • Demonstrated success building and leading high-performing sales organizations.
  • Proven track record driving client acquisition, revenue growth, and market expansion.
  • Experience leading geographically dispersed teams and influencing across matrixed organizations.
  • Strong understanding of business lending, deposits, treasury management, and relationship banking.
  • Exceptional communication, executive presence, and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to influence senior leaders across multiple business segments.
  • Experience developing and executing strategic growth plans. Preferred Qualifications
  • MBA or advanced business degree.
  • Formal credit training and commercial lending experience.
  • Deep knowledge of Small Business and Commercial Banking client segments.
  • Experience leading large-scale sales transformation or market expansion initiatives.
  • FINRA licenses or ability to obtain if required for specific business responsibilities.
  • Experience working across Small Business and Branch Banking.
