Medical Physicist – Radiation Oncology Locations: Lafayette, LA / Opelousas, LA / New Iberia, LA | Full-time | On-site Join a dynamic, patient-centered cancer care team in beautiful Southern Louisiana. We are seeking a motivated, ABR-certified Medical Physicist to support the safe and effective delivery of radiation therapy in a collaborative and quality-focused clinical environment.

About The Role

The successful candidate will contribute to the accurate and precise delivery of radiation therapy, assist in quality assurance efforts, and help maintain a strong radiation safety culture. You'll engage in a variety of responsibilities that support the safe operation of our department.

You will provide management responsibilities for dosimetrists and physicists. What Physics contributes to Cardinal Health Radiation is a medical specialty that uses radiation to treat cancer and alleviate symptoms, and it can also be used for certain non-cancerous conditions.

In this treatment, radiation beams are carefully directed at the cancer from a machine that moves around your body. Physics applies principles of physics to radiation therapy, ensuring the accurate delivery of radiation doses to patients. Primary Responsibilities Calibrate external beam therapy equipment to ensure accurate and consistent dose delivery.

Assist with treatment planning processes, including dose distributions and dosimetry measurements. Design and develop patient treatment services (Therapy (IMRT) Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT), including surface-guided radiotherapy with VisionRT Brachytherapy (LDR and HDR) including Mammosite/ Contura Radiosurgery (SRS) and Sterotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT).

Assist with radiation safety programs, maintaining appropriate records, and ensuring compliance with NRC, JC, and state regulations. Support the development and maintenance of departmental policies, QA programs, and regulatory documentation.

Collaborate with the clinical team to optimize treatment plans and patient care. Monitor, troubleshoot, and coordinate maintenance of treatment equipment and software systems to ensure consistent clinical performance. Participate in evaluations of new technologies and contribute to equipment planning efforts.

Contribute to ongoing quality assurance initiatives and continuous improvement projects within the department. Qualifications 8-12 years of experience, preferred Bachelor's degree in related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred ABR Certification in Therapeutic Medical Physics, required Master’s, PhD, or DMP in Medical Physics or related field Eligible for state licensure, if applicable Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel (up to 25%) Experience with external beam therapy, HDR and LDR brachytherapy, and modern imaging modalities, preferred Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort with troubleshooting both hardware and software systems, preferred Familiarity with 3D printing techniques and customized treatment device development, preferred What is expected of you and others at this level Manages department operations and supervises professional employees, front line supervisors and/or business support staff Participates in the development of policies and procedures to achieve specific goals Ensures employees operate within guidelines Decisions have a short term impact on work processes, outcomes and customers Interacts with subordinates, peers, customers, and suppliers at various management levels; may interact with senior management Interactions normally involve resolution of issues related to operations and/or projects Gains consensus from various parties involved What We Offer Compensation: Anticipated salary range of $ 149,500 - $ 310,500 per year.
