Role Summary The Senior Specialist, Data Engineering (Technical Lead) will provide technical leadership in designing, building, and scaling enterprise data solutions on AWS. This role requires a seasoned data engineering professional with deep expertise in AWS data platforms, ETL development, data architecture, data modeling, and modern data management practices.
The successful candidate will lead multiple data engineering initiatives, partner with cross-functional stakeholders, drive technical direction across teams, and ensure the delivery of scalable, reliable, and high-performing data solutions that support business and analytics objectives.
Strong understanding of the Plan Sponsor and Workplace Investing business, including 401(k) and retirement plan ecosystems, sponsors, consultants, advisors, participants, and recordkeeping operations. Experience supporting data and analytics solutions that leverage CRM, sales, marketing, and client engagement data to power business applications, client insights, lead generation, campaign execution, and relationship management capabilities.
Responsibilities Lead the design, development, and optimization of scalable data engineering solutions and ETL/ELT pipelines using AWS technologies and industry best practices. Architect and implement data integration solutions that ingest and transform data from APIs, enterprise systems, databases, and third-party platforms into trusted and consumable datasets.
Design and maintain robust AWS-based data platforms utilizing services such as AWS Glue, Amazon Redshift, S3, and other AWS data services to support analytics and reporting needs. Define and implement data architecture and data modeling standards to ensure scalability, consistency, performance, and long-term maintainability.
Develop high-quality, performant data solutions using Python and advanced SQL, ensuring adherence to coding standards, security requirements, and engineering best practices. Partner with business stakeholders, product teams, architects, and engineering teams to analyze requirements, design solutions, and deliver business value.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex data quality, consistency, integrity, and performance issues across data pipelines and platforms. Lead database design and optimization activities across relational and non-relational environments, ensuring efficient storage, retrieval, and processing of large datasets.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers across multiple pods/teams, promoting engineering excellence and data best practices. Drive technical direction, establish standards, conduct design reviews, and contribute to strategic data engineering initiatives across the organization.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enable data-driven decision-making through reliable, scalable, and well-governed data solutions. Support continuous improvement initiatives and evaluate emerging technologies to enhance the organization's data engineering capabilities.
Qualifications and Skills Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field. Minimum 10 years of relevant technology experience, including at least 5 years in a Technical Lead role.
Strong experience in Data Engineering, data integration, and enterprise data platform development. Proven experience designing and implementing ETL/ELT solutions in large-scale environments. Deep expertise in AWS cloud services, with hands-on experience building data solutions using: AWS Glue, Amazon Redshift, Amazon S3, Other AWS data engineering services Strong proficiency in Python for data processing, automation, and engineering solutions.
Advanced SQL skills, including query optimization, performance tuning, and complex data transformations. Strong understanding of data architecture, data modeling, and data management principles. Experience working with both relational and non-relational databases, including SQL and NoSQL technologies.
Experience integrating data from APIs, enterprise applications, third-party systems, and diverse data sources. Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve data consistency, accuracy, integrity, and performance issues. Ability to collaborate across multiple teams, influence technical decisions, and drive solution design from concept through implementation.
Strong stakeholder management, communication, and leadership skills. Location This role is based in Hyderabad, Telangana at Vanguard’s India office.
