Become a part of our caring community The Technology Product Owner for the Humana claim as a service team at Humana is accountable for the definition, prioritization, and delivery of technical capabilities, platform health, and system modernization.
This role ensures that technical enablers, architectural runway, technical debt management, and platform reliability are proactively addressed in partnership with engineering and architecture teams. The Technology Product Owner collaborates closely with the Business Product team and business operations to understand the technology implications of business objectives, but does not directly own the business capability roadmap or act as the primary voice of the customer.
This position is essential in ensuring that the product backlog is balanced, with appropriate allocation for foundational technology work such as upgrades, integration, security, scalability, and compliance, enabling the business to achieve its goals sustainably and securely.
Key Responsibilities Serve as the primary owner for technical capabilities, enablers, and system health items in the product backlog. Collaborate with Business Product Owners, business operations, and stakeholders to translate business needs into robust, scalable, and sustainable technical solutions.
Ensure technical priorities—such as modernization, refactoring, resiliency, performance, security, data quality, technical debt remediation, and architectural runway—are represented in backlog prioritization and delivery planning. Partner with business stakeholders to negotiate and balance the allocation of delivery capacity between business-driven features and technical initiatives.
Lead the preparation and refinement of technical user stories and acceptance criteria, ensuring readiness for engineering teams. Participate in feature refinement, sprint planning, and PI Planning to ensure technical work is well understood, estimated, and scheduled.
Monitor and report on key technical metrics, including technical debt, system performance, version compliance, and platform stability. Work closely with engineering, architecture, data analytics, and vendor partners to deliver high-quality technical solutions and integrations.
Maintain compliance with Humana’s technology lifecycle management (TLM) policies, including timely upgrades, version certification, and end-of-life remediation. Support the development and execution of risk management strategies related to technical obsolescence, security vulnerabilities, and lifecycle policy compliance.
Facilitate technical workboard reviews and prioritization sessions, ensuring timely delivery of technical enhancements and remediation activities. Collaborate on continuous improvement initiatives by incorporating feedback from retrospectives and leveraging best practices in claims platform architecture and technical operations.
Support documentation and knowledge sharing for technology lifecycle processes, remediation playbooks, and technical validation criteria. Below are expected key success-outcomes for this role: Achievement of quarterly and annual product goals, as defined in PI Objectives and OKRs.
Technical features, enablers, and platform improvements are delivered on time and meet acceptance criteria, enabling business teams to launch or enhance capabilities as planned. Sprint predictability is consistently maintained within the target range (80–100%) by ensuring that the majority of planned story points are completed within each sprint Delivery of features within planned Program Increments (PIs), with minimal carryover and blockers.
Business product teams, operations, and engineering report improved alignment, with minimal friction or misunderstandings around technical deliverables and dependencies. Retrospectives result in actionable improvements that are implemented, leading to measurable gains in delivery velocity, quality, or system health Use your skills to make an impact Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field. 3 + years of experience in technology, technical product ownership, or engineering leadership roles. 1 + years' experience leading technology modernization, system upgrades, or platform lifecycle initiatives in a complex enterprise environment. 1 + years' experience with agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum, SAFe) and technical backlog management tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, Jira).
Proven ability to communicate complex technical topics to both technical and non-technical audiences. 1 + years' experience managing technical debt, system integrations, and compliance with technology lifecycle or currency standards. Preferred Qualifications SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager certification or equivalent.
Prior involvement in technology rationalization, software version management, or technology risk reduction programs. Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required. Scheduled Weekly Hours 40 Pay Range The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting.
The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc. $86,300 - $118,700 per year This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan.
