We have a pivotal contract role as a Senior Patient Safety Specialist, where you’ll be part of a highly collaborative team dedicated to working across our business areas to ensure our life-changing medicines meet the highest safety standards across their lifecycle. This is a 12-month full-time contract position based in our Sydney office. You will work in the Macquarie Park office three days per week with hybrid working arrangements. Here, your work will directly contribute to maintaining trust in our medicines and protecting the patients who rely on them. What you’ll do As a Senior Patient Safety Specialist, you will play a meaningful role in protecting patients. You will support high-quality pharmacovigilance and safety science within AstraZeneca's global patient safety division. Key tasks include: Work with internal teams to offer expert patient safety advice and build Organised Data Collection Programs (ODCPs). These include patient access initiatives and market research. Guide the identification, flow, and management of safety data to maintain Good Pharmacovigilance Practice (GVP). Oversee and manage external program vendors and our internal case processing team, driving high compliance standards for Adverse Event (AE) reporting and uplifting performance where necessary. Monitor compliance and where necessary collaborate with internal and external partners to manage deviations. Support local audit and inspection readiness processes as required. Essential for the role Minimum of three years in a pharmacovigilance or patient safety role within a pharmaceutical company, with a strong foundation in Good Pharmacovigilance Practice (GVP). Demonstrated experience managing safety requirements for Organised Data Collection Programs (ODCPs), patient programs, or market research activities. Proven ability to navigate a cross-functional matrix and proactively engage with internal and external parties to meet regulatory needs. Experience overseeing and managing external vendors or internal teams to ensure strict adherence to safety reporting standards and health authority regulations. Demonstrated hands-on experience navigating and extracting data from a safety database. Openness to or experience with using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to enhance day-to-day pharmacovigilance processes. Desirable for the role Experience drafting and negotiating Pharmacovigilance Agreements (PVAs) with other pharmaceutical companies or reviewing safety clauses in vendor contracts. Previous involvement in patient safety audits or local inspections. Previous touchpoints or experience working collaboratively alongside clinical trial teams. Why AstraZeneca?
