Title: Senior Project Engineer Senior Project Engineer KBR Sustainable Technology Solutions (STS) provides holistic and value-added solutions across the entire asset life cycle. KBR is seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to lead full‑lifecycle delivery of midstream assets supporting unconventional oil development and enhanced oil recovery (EOR) programs for locations in the Alberta, Canada. This role focuses on the engineering development and execution of midstream infrastructure projects, including pipelines, facilities, and thermal recovery operations such as SAGD (Steam-Assisted Gravity Drainage) along with the related oil recovery systems.

You’ll interface with international engineering teams ensuring safe, compliant, and capital‑efficient project execution. This role is anticipated to involve both home office (Calgary, Alberta), remote/field work, and potential for occasional international travel.

Functional job responsibilities will include but are not limited to: Project & Technical Leadership Reporting to the Project Manager will provide direct leadership of a team (~20 +/-) through engineering, planning, design, and execution of midstream infrastructure including pipelines, pumping stations, and processing facilities.

Provide technical oversight and design support for Steam-Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) facilities, including well pads, steam generation, and water handling systems Coordinate multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, process, civil, electrical, and instrumentation) across FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, and construction phases Manage project scope, schedule, and quality from concept through start‑up; maintain risk registers and management of change (MOC).

Oversee the development and approval of basic PFDs/P&IDs, HMBs, hydraulic calculations, line sizing, pipeline class/location analysis, materials selection, and corrosion/chemical treatment strategies. Ensure strict compliance with HSE regulations, promoting a safety-first culture across all project phases Construction & Field Execution Support and provide oversight of contractor bid, award, and construction; manage field engineering, RFI resolution, redlines/as‑builts, pre‑commissioning, and start‑up.

Commercial, Regulatory & Stakeholder Management Interface with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to ensure compliance with Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) and environmental standards Interface with production, operations, HSE, subsurface, completions, measurement, and marketing to align designs with production targets and reliability KPIs.

Lead technical inputs for procurement activities (vendor selection, bid evaluations, and contract management) and commercial agreements (interconnects, tariffs, measurement/custody transfer, allocation and balancing). Reliability, Integrity & Optimization Identify opportunities for operational efficiency improvements and debottlenecking within midstream and upstream integrated systems.

Drive continuous improvement—benchmarking CAPEX/OPEX, standardizing designs, implementing digital tools (SCADA, historian, pipeline simulation, facility digital twins). Required Education, Experience, & Skills: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Petroleum, or Civil Engineering.

Non-engineering degreed professionals may also be considered with extensive proven relevant experience. 10+ years of relevant experience in oil & gas project engineering, with strong exposure to midstream operations in Alberta. Direct experience with SAGD facilities Experience in brownfield modifications and facility expansions Demonstrated experience managing engineering and construction projects for remote or oil sands environments.

Strong knowledge of pipeline systems, fluid handling, thermal systems, and oil processing infrastructure. Familiarity with Canadian codes and standards (CSA, ASME, API) and AER regulations Superior field presence, safety leadership, communication, and cross‑disciplinary coordination.

Proven ability to manage budgets, schedules, and multidiscipline teams effectively. Proficiency in using standard office software like Microsoft Office Suite. Preferred Education & Skills: Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Alberta (APEGA) or eligibility to obtain within 12 months of employment.

Exposure to water treatment, steam generation (OTSG/HRSG), and heat integration systems. Familiarity with AFE development, cost control, scheduling (Primavera P6 or MS Project), and contractor oversight. Physical/Field Requirements Ability to visit remote field sites, walk ROWs and facilities, and work in all seasonal conditions in Alberta, Canada.

Comfortable with routine PPE and safety protocols; valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
