About the Role This is a rare opportunity to help shape Rio Tinto's next chapter in Australia's energy market. As Rio Tinto continues to build its in-house energy market capability, we are looking for an experienced Settlements Analyst to help establish and operate the systems, processes and controls that support our growing electricity and environmental product portfolio. Working at the intersection of Energy Trading, Risk, Finance and Technology, you'll play a key role in building a new capability from the ground up, creating scalable and automated settlement processes that will support Rio Tinto's participation in Australian energy markets for years to come. Key responsibilities include Lead the design and implementation of Rio Tinto's in-house energy market settlements capability, including systems, processes, controls and reporting. Once implemented, manage all aspects of electricity and environmental product settlements for PPAs, OTC and exchange-traded derivatives and market settlements with AEMO. Translate market rules, contracts and commercial requirements into accurate and scalable settlement processes. Partner with Trading, Risk, Finance, Treasury and Technology teams to support market operations and business growth. Drive automation, continuous improvement and operational excellence across the settlements function. Support forecasting, reconciliations, reporting and financial control activities. - Skills and Capabilities: Ability to design and establish energy market settlement processes, controls and operating frameworks within a complex commercial environment.
- Experience: Significant experience in energy settlements, trading operations, middle office or back-office functions within a generator, retailer, trader, market participant or large energy user.
- Qualifications: Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent industry experience in energy markets, commerce, finance, economics, engineering or a related discipline.
- Systems: Experience with settlement, trading or ETRM platforms, advanced Excel, SQL and the analysis of large market and interval datasets. Helpful for Success
- Experience with AEMO settlement processes, prudential requirements and National Electricity Market operations.
- Exposure to PPAs, electricity derivatives, environmental products or broader energy trading activities.
- Experience implementing or materially improving settlement systems, controls or operational processes.
