- Stripe's Infrastructure organization builds and operates the shared platforms that make it possible for engineering teams to build, deploy, run
- scale reliable products. The organization owns foundational capabilities across service networking and discovery, safe feature and configuration changes, data storage and orchestration
- Our platforms support a global engineering audience and power systems at significant scale. This includes the control plane for secure service-to-service communication across tens of thousands of microservices, service and feature deployment infrastructure that helps teams introduce and recover from changes safely, infrastructure for running Stripe's containerized services

- As an Engineering Manager, you will lead or strongly influence teams working on business-critical infrastructure with broad internal adoption. You will balance reliability, scalability, security, developer experience

- adjacent infrastructure leaders to set direction, resolve cross-team dependencies

- What you'll do
- As an Engineering Manager at Stripe, you will operate with full autonomy across a complex, high-impact area of our infrastructure. Your scope extends beyond a single team. You lead or strongly influence multiple engineering teams, execute parallel high-priority workstreams
- develop senior engineering talent. You set direction, align stakeholders, make decisions that hold up over time
- deliver results without close direction.
- Responsibilities
- Lead with scope and autonomy by driving impact across multiple teams or a significant infrastructure area independently, translating organizational goals into concrete execution plans
- delivering results across parallel workstreams
- Define strategy and roadmap for your area, anticipating internal user needs, technical challenges, reliability risks, and business priorities, then communicating a clear plan to your team and senior leadership
- Develop senior talent by coaching senior engineers and emerging leaders, creating meaningful stretch opportunities, and giving candid feedback that improves individual and team performance
- Drive cross-functional alignment with product, security, data, support, and adjacent engineering teams, resolving ambiguity at team boundaries and aligning stakeholders around shared priorities
- Hire and scale the team by attracting, developing, and retaining senior engineering talent while maintaining a high hiring bar and building an inclusive, high-performing organization
- Operate with rigor by setting high standards for reliability, availability, scalability, incident response, and engineering craft, and by addressing systemic issues that affect internal users across Stripe
- Partner with Staff engineers on architecture decisions involving distributed systems, service discovery, configuration propagation, production change management, data processing, and internal platform design

- Minimum requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience with 10+ years of software development experience
- 4+ years of engineering management experience with a demonstrated track record of autonomous impact as an engineering manager
- Experience leading high-complexity engineering teams that deliver multiple difficult, high-impact workstreams in parallel
- Proven ability to influence and align cross-functional stakeholders without direct authority, communicating a clear direction that others follow
- Meaningful recruiting experience, including a track record of attracting and developing senior engineering talent
- Technical depth sufficient to guide architecture decisions and hold teams to a high standard for product quality, reliability, and engineering craft
- Preferred qualifications
- Experience building or operating high-availability distributed systems, internal platforms, or developer infrastructure used by a broad engineering audience
- Experience with service networking, service discovery, service mesh, feature flags, configuration management, progressive delivery, deployment tooling, or production change governance
- Experience with data infrastructure, including large-scale storage, data orchestration, batch compute, or processing frameworks such as Apache Airflow, Apache Spark, Apache Iceberg, Apache Hadoop, or Apache Celeborn
- Experience improving reliability through observability, health checks, incident response, automated recovery, capacity planning, or reducing the impact of production changes
- Experience designing secure access controls, audit systems, approval workflows, or governance mechanisms for production infrastructure
- Experience with cloud infrastructure and distributed systems technologies such as Amazon Web Services, DynamoDB, Aurora, S3, Ruby, Go, Java, or Python
- A product mindset for internal platforms, including empathy for internal users, a focus on self-service, and a commitment to making safe workflows straightforward to adopt
- In-office expectations
- Office-assigned Stripes in most locations are expected to spend at least 50% of their time in a given month in their local office or with users. This expectation may vary by role, team
- location. The hiring manager will discuss the expectations for this role during the process.
