- We are seeking a Software Engineer to contribute to the development of XR applications for teleoperating Fauna robots. You will work at the intersection of XR engineering and real-time robotics, writing the code that drives the backend of our XR application, from full-body pose projection, operator calibration and telemetry, to the performance and optimization that keeps the teleoperator and the robot in sync. Your decisions will directly shape how operators and data collectors experience the robot from inside the headset. You will design for the extremes—ensuring a flawless, low-latency experience despite unpredictable real-world network conditions
- implement improvements to tracking, robot communication
- ergonomic and UX challenges characteristic to prolonged XR wear. Key job responsibilities - Develop and maintain our Meta Quest applications built in Unity for XR teleoperation and data collection - Write production-quality C# in an event-driven, well-structured Unity codebase, using the Meta XR SDK for full-body tracking and interaction - Own the live connection between the headset and the robot: real-time pose streams, telemetry and command channels
- audio/video links — debug, harden
- extend these network interfaces as the system evolves - Maintain and improve our pose projection pipeline, calibration flow
- state-aware input system so operators can drive the robot reliably with optimal ergonomic comfort and strict operational safety guardrails - Build functional in-headset interfaces and HUDs for teleoperators and data collectors — accessing telemetry data, using menus while teleoperating the robot, managing recording sessions
- intervening during autonomy without leaving XR - Iterate on operator-facing flows in Unity Editor, including audio-visual guidance from a virtual robot companion that walks operators through calibration, teleoperation
- data collection tasks - Integrate with backend services to manage data collection tasks, robot selection
- telemetry - Collaborate with robotics, ML
- operations engineers to translate teleoperation and data-collection requirements into shipping XR features that will augment their workflows About the team Fauna Robotics, an Amazon company, is building capable, safe
- genuinely delightful robots for everyday life. Our goal is simple: make robots people actually want to live and interact with in everyday human spaces. We believe that future won’t arrive until building for robotics becomes far more accessible. Today, too much effort is spent reinventing the fundamentals. We’re changing that by developing tightly integrated hardware and software systems that make it faster, safer
- more intuitive to create real-world robotic products. Our work spans the full stack: mechanical design, control systems, dynamic modeling
- intelligent software. The focus is not just functionality, but experience. We’re building robots that feel responsive, expressive
- genuinely useful. At Fauna, you’ll work at the frontier of this space, helping define how robots move, manipulate
- interact with people in natural environments. It’s an opportunity to solve hard problems across hardware and software with a team focused on making robotics accessible and joyful to build. If you care about making robotics real for everyone and building systems that are as delightful as they are capable, we’re interested in hearing from you.
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience - Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics
- a related field - 2+ years of professional C# development experience, including shipped XR work, with emphasis on Unity or Unreal Engine - Experience developing for Meta Quest, HTC Vive
- comparable head-mounted displays using the Meta XR SDK’s / OpenXR stack - Strong proficiency with Unity’s gameobject/component model and Unity Editor workflows, including prefabs, scenes, real-time rendering optimization and animation systems
- similar Unreal Engine components. - Experience working with real-time network protocols in Unity for streaming pose, telemetry
- media data between devices - Experience building functional UI in Unity for end-users, including in-headset HUDs, interactables and tools - Familiarity with RESTful API design and integrating Unity clients with HTTP-based backend services
- Experience with low-latency video and audio streaming in networked XR applications - Experience with event-driven Unity architectures and state machines in mid-to-large codebases - Experience authoring high-fidelity interactive 3D environments in Unity, including colliders, physics interactions
- lighting setups for virtual teleoperation or data collection - Experience designing audio-visual guidance systems, virtual companions
- tutorial flows that gamify complex tasks for end users - Experience with full-body and hand tracking pipelines, including calibration, pose projection, retargeting
- motion capture. Prior experience working with mocap suits or lighthouse-based full-body tracking setups is highly preferred - Exposure to teleoperation, robotics
- human-in-the-loop systems - Fluency with AI-assisted development workflows (e.g. Claude Code, Figma-to-Unity pipelines) - Experience navigating 3D asset pipelines (Blender, Maya, Houdini) to optimize, re-rig
- prepare skinned meshes and models for seamless import into Unity Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability
