The Microsoft Ads Editor team develops and operates Microsoft Advertising Editor, a cross-platform application used by advertisers to efficiently create, manage, and optimize large-scale advertising campaigns.
As a Principal Software Engineer Manager , you will lead a high-performing engineering organization responsible for delivering innovative advertiser experiences, scalable architectures, and engineering excellence across the Editor ecosystem.
You will provide technical and organizational leadership, drive long-term strategy, foster AI-native engineering practices, and collaborate across product, design, data science, and platform teams to build reliable, secure, accessible, and customer-centric solutions that power advertiser productivity worldwide.

Responsibilities Define and drive the long-term technical vision, architecture, and engineering strategy for Microsoft Advertising Editor and its surrounding ecosystem. Lead a team of engineers to design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain highly performant, reliable, secure, and scalable advertiser experiences.
Drive adoption of AI-native engineering practices and modern software development methodologies, ensuring responsible use of AI-assisted development tools throughout the software development lifecycle. Lead architecture and design discussions across teams, proactively identifying dependencies, risks, tradeoffs, and opportunities for platform simplification and reuse.
Establish and continuously improve engineering excellence practices, including code quality, test automation, developer productivity, accessibility, reliability, security, telemetry, and operational readiness. Drive end-to-end execution across multiple teams from ideation and planning through deployment, experimentation, customer validation, and live-site operations.
Champion a data-driven engineering culture through the use of telemetry, experimentation, operational metrics, engineering health indicators, and customer insights. Partner closely with Product Management, Design, Data Science, Platform, and partner teams to deliver innovative customer-focused solutions and business impact.
Ensure products meet Microsoft's standards for privacy, security, accessibility, compliance, resiliency, and responsible AI. Lead live-site excellence and operational maturity, including incident management, root cause analysis, observability investments, and continuous reliability improvements.
Attract, develop, coach, and retain diverse engineering talent by fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and growth-oriented culture. Model Microsoft's leadership principles by creating clarity, generating energy, and delivering success through empowerment and accountability.
Qualifications Required/Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
Proven experience leading software engineering teams responsible for delivering complex customer-facing products at scale. Min 3 years of people management experience. Solid technical foundation in software architecture, system design, distributed systems, application development, and modern software engineering practices.
Demonstrated ability to lead highly complex technical initiatives across organizational boundaries and influence engineering strategy beyond an individual team. Experience driving engineering quality through automation, CI/CD, testing strategies, code reviews, telemetry, monitoring, and operational excellence.
Experience building and shipping software using modern development platforms, frameworks, and cloud technologies. Solid problem-solving, debugging, decision-making, and execution skills. Demonstrated ability to lead through ambiguity, balance short-term delivery with long-term investments, and drive alignment among diverse stakeholders.
Excellent verbal, written, and executive communication skills. Proven experience developing engineering talent and building inclusive, high-performing teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with React, TypeScript, Electron, WebView2, desktop applications, or modern client application architectures.
- Solid experience with C#/.NET and full-stack engineering practices.
- Experience building large-scale productivity applications, campaign management systems, SaaS products, or advertising technology platforms.
- Experience driving AI-assisted software development adoption and engineering productivity improvements through tools such as GitHub Copilot and related AI technologies.
- Experience establishing engineering health metrics and applying frameworks such as SPACE, Accelerate, or similar engineering effectiveness models.
- Experience driving accessibility, globalization, quality, and usability investments in customer-facing applications.
- Experience with Azure, cloud-native services, observability platforms, telemetry systems, and experimentation frameworks.
- Demonstrated success modernizing legacy systems, improving platform maintainability, and leading transformational engineering initiatives.
- Experience delivering products with solid live-site operational excellence, reliability engineering, and security-by-design practices.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.
- Availability to participate in live-site support and operational leadership activities as required.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across global engineering organizations and time zones.
