Performance Marketing Manager
Top focus
Relay is a digital banking platform that gives self-made business owners the tools and know-how to be great with money—bringing clarity, confidence, and control to every dollar earned, so they can turn hard work into lasting success. We do this by replacing financial guesswork with real visibility, transforming cash flow from a constant source of stress into a clear signal owners can use to run stronger, more resilient businesses.
You'll join Relay as a Performance Marketing Manager , who runs one of the most analytically sophisticated paid programs in the SMB fintech space — operating across paid search, paid social, publisher, CTV, and direct mail with a $2-3M monthly budget.
Your mission: keep Approvals growing while protecting the unit economics — the LTV-to-CAC relationship — that make every dollar of media spend defensible. What You'll Be Doing Own optimization and testing across paid search, YouTube, connected TV/TV and direct mail — continually reallocating budget based on Approvals and LTV:CAC signal, not just channel-level ROAS.
Manage our publisher channel, scaling and optimizing a portfolio of media partners to produce efficient quality approvals. Build out Relay's paid social program, bringing your own point of view on where and how it can scale. Manage day-to-day relationships with Relay's advertising and media buying vendors.
Partner with the Brand team to build feedback loops on how creative and video assets are performing down-funnel, translating performance data into clear creative direction. Use SQL and Metabase daily to pull your own numbers, and work with data scientists on our marketing mix model to sanity-check attribution rather than taking reports at face value.
Flex spend allocation and creative approach across Relay's dual acquisition motion — self-serve (PLG) and sales-assisted — recognizing that a single playbook doesn't work for both. Bring an independent point of view on channel best practices and attribution reads, rather than accepting industry "best practices" or a model's output at face value.
Who You Are You've personally run more than one paid channel at meaningful spend (not just Google, not just Meta) and can speak to the tradeoffs between them. You've been responsible for a large ad budget (at least $500k monthly) and can walk through how you allocated it and why, not just executed a plan someone else set.
You're comfortable operating in ambiguous situations where playbooks are still being written and priorities change. You're SQL-fluent and treat attribution models (MTA, MMM, last-click) as inputs to question, not answers to accept at face value.
You have a track record of noticing an opportunity — a new channel, a new segment, a platform change — and going after it without being told, rather than waiting for direction. Why Relay Might Be the Perfect Fit For You You push relentlessly for reinvention: You're always asking "how can this be better?" -- in your work, in your craft, in yourself.
Comfort is a signal to push harder, not coast. You'd rather build something better than defend something familiar. You crave autonomy: We trust our team with big challenges and the freedom to solve them. If you’re someone who takes initiative, is comfortable taking risks, and seeks input when needed, you’ll find the freedom here empowering.
You own your work: You take pride in your work, follow through on commitments, and feel a deep sense of responsibility for outcomes, not just tasks. You build with AI, not just use it: You're actively embedding AI into how you work, pushing what's possible, and bringing your team along with you.
You care about impact, not noise: You care deeply about the substance of your work. You measure success by results, not recognition, and you let your work speak for itself. You’re energized by complexity and ambiguity: You enjoy tackling problems that don’t come with a playbook.
You’re comfortable building from scratch, iterating as you go, and collaborating to shape the best path forward. You seek out feedback: You see directness as respect, not criticism. You actively seek input, sit with hard truths, and use feedback as fuel for improvement.
