Work Flexibility: Hybrid What You Will Do: Lead packaging sustaining activities across the Joint Replacement portfolio, ensuring ongoing compliance, product performance, and supply continuity and serve as the primary technical resource for packaging-related design changes, assessments, investigations, and lifecycle management activities.
Evaluate and implement packaging modifications driven by quality, regulatory, supplier, manufacturing, or business requirements and partner with divisional stakeholders to ensure packaging changes are appropriately assessed, documented, and implemented.
Provide technical oversight for packaging CAD models, engineering drawings, specifications, and associated product documentation; review and approve packaging drawing revisions, design updates, and engineering changes within applicable PLM systems and ensure BOM accuracy and alignment across packaging components, labels, specifications, and released documentation.
Drive standardization and continuous improvement of packaging documentation practices and drawing management processes and lead investigations related to packaging complaints, NCRs, CAPAs, supplier issues, and customer inquiries. Collaborate with Quality and Regulatory teams to assess risks and determine appropriate corrective and preventive actions and support the development and maintenance of packaging risk management documentation and ensure packaging systems remain compliant with applicable regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal procedures.
Work closely with suppliers and procurement teams to address packaging-related technical issues, material changes, sourcing activities, and supply chain risks and support supplier qualifications, material evaluations, and implementation of alternate sourcing strategies where required.
Provide technical support to manufacturing and packaging operations teams for troubleshooting, process improvements, and issue resolution and participate in supplier communications and technical reviews to ensure packaging requirements are clearly understood and maintained and influence technical decisions through strong engineering judgment, collaboration, and data-driven problem solving.
Partner closely with Packaging Solutions teams, divisional stakeholders, and engineering counterparts across the US, Ireland, and global locations and act as a key technical liaison between sustaining engineering, divisional teams, manufacturing sites, suppliers, and functional partners and drive alignment on packaging standards, engineering approaches, validation strategies, and best practices across regions.
Communicate technical decisions and recommendations effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and identify opportunities to improve packaging performance, documentation quality, engineering efficiency, and business processes.
Lead packaging cost optimization, standardization, digitalization, and operational excellence initiatives and drive projects focused on simplification, supplier optimization, drawing consolidation, and product data accuracy and support strategic initiatives that improve customer experience, operational performance, and organizational effectiveness.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and cross-functional partners and lead complex projects and technical workstreams with minimal supervision and support development of engineering standards, best practices, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
What You Will Need: Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline and relevant experience in packaging engineering, sustaining engineering, product development, or medical device engineering within a regulated environment.
Experience- 8 years - 11 years Strong understanding of packaging design, engineering drawings, CAD systems, BOM structures, change management, and product lifecycle management; analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills. Experience supporting design changes, investigations, CAPAs, NCRs, supplier issues, and manufacturing support activities.
Knowledge of medical device quality systems, risk management, design controls, and applicable packaging standards. Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional projects and influence stakeholders across global teams. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Creo, Windchill, OnePLM, Agile, SAP, or similar product lifecycle management systems; working with global engineering teams and external suppliers.
Previous experience mentoring engineers or leading technical initiatives. Travel Percentage: 10%
