Join us and transform the lives of patients while transforming your career Director, Data Acquisition and Governance In this vital role, you will lead the governance, vendor lifecycle, contracting coordination, and operational backbone for Amgen's commercial data acquisition function.

You will ensure current and future commercial data assets are governed, contracted, documented, accessed, renewed, audited, and supported through scalable processes and compliant operating standards. This is a role for a leader who understands how commercial data assets, vendor relationships, data rights, access pathways, documentation standards, and operational controls enable business strategy and responsible data use.

You will define and continuously improve commercial data governance processes, vendor lifecycle standards, contracting coordination, Data Catalog standards, third-party access processes, operational controls, and documentation requirements that support business priorities and strategic data needs.

You will partner closely with cross-functional partners to operationalize approved data strategies and ensure new or existing data assets are transitioned into the appropriate governance, contracting, onboarding, access, documentation, and steady-state support model.

This role collaborates across Global Customer Capabilities & Innovation (GCCI), Technology, Enterprise Data, Legal, Privacy, Compliance, Procurement, Finance, CfOR, and external data vendors to ensure data governance and operations enable business needs while maintaining appropriate controls.

What you will do Responsibilities Define and oversee compliant Commercial Data Governance and Acquisition operations, processes, standards, controls, and policies, with a focus on continuous improvement, scalability, risk management, and operational efficiency.

Lead governance, contracting coordination, onboarding readiness, access planning, and operational transition for approved new data assets, including collaborating across functions to confirm requirements and partnering with Technology / Data Management to ensure systems readiness.

Provide governance, vendor, contracting, access, and operational input to Executives, Directors, and cross-functional partners related to new and existing data assets. Identify and act on opportunities to consolidate vendors, rationalize overlapping services, improve contractual efficiency, streamline onboarding, reduce operational complexity, and optimize value across commercial data assets.

Provide expertise on current data assets and establish controls, documentation standards, governance checkpoints, and catalog practices Partner with Procurement, Legal, Privacy, Compliance, Finance, business stakeholders, and vendors to develop contracting and renewal strategies that optimize data spend, data rights, usage terms, access requirements, vendor deliverables, service levels, and long-term value.

Serve as the governance and vendor lifecycle lead across GCCI responsible for maintaining our organizational data standards, controls and operating procedures. Oversee data vendor partners, including vendor performance routines, training coordination, service expectations, issue management processes, escalation pathways, data quality follow-through, and continuous improvement actions.

Collaborate cross-functionally to advise on commercial data assets, vendor governance, permitted-use considerations, access pathways, operational processes, data stewardship, and vendor performance. Collaborate with Technology, Data Management, and Data Science teams to ensure approved data assets are technically feasible, operationally supportable, appropriately documented, accessible through approved pathways, and aligned to governance standards.

Communicate critical vendor changes, product additions, data availability updates, access impacts, operational risks, governance decisions, and issue escalations to senior leadership and impacted stakeholders. Provide governance, vendor, contracting, budget, and operational input into data strategy prioritization and key areas of business impact.

Serve as Point of Contact (POC) for US Healthcare Audit and other relevant data acquisition audits in partnership with Commercial Data Strategy leadership, Corporate Audit, Legal, Privacy, Compliance, and Procurement; oversee data purchase documentation, evidence collection, remediation plans, control follow-through, and audit completion.

Manage commercial data acquisition budget planning inputs, vendor spend tracking, renewal visibility, resource planning, team execution, and contractor/vendor support required to sustain governance and operational delivery. Basic Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree and 4 years of data acquisition, data governance, commercial data operations, vendor management, commercial analytics, data strategy
  • a related field experience OR Master’s degree and 8 years of data acquisition, data governance, commercial data operations, vendor management, commercial analytics, data strategy
  • a related field experience OR Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of data acquisition, data governance, commercial data operations, vendor management, commercial analytics, data strategy
  • a related field experience In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have at least 4 years experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs
  • directing the allocation or resources.
  • Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above Preferred Qualifications / Competencies: Ability to establish governance vision, operating strategy, standards, controls
  • execution plans for a commercial data governance and operations function.
  • Deep understanding of pharmaceutical and healthcare data sources and how they are governed, contracted, accessed, documented
  • used, including sales, customer, patient, provider, plan/payer, claims, specialty pharmacy, lab, EHR/EMR, media, access
  • Experience developing, implementing, and enforcing policies, standards, controls, operating procedures, and governance routines across multiple functions.
  • Successfully created and led a data enablement council made up of a diverse set of data domain leads tasked with accelerating value realization through an aligned data strategy, investment governance

  • Executive presence and negotiation skills, including experience supporting vendor renewals, contracting strategy, data rights, usage terms, access requirements, service levels, vendor deliverables, and value trade-offs.
  • Excellent communication, process management, project leadership, executive stakeholder management, and vendor management skills.
  • Excellent diplomacy and facilitation skills, with the ability to influence without authority across Commercial, BAI PODs, Technology, Data Management, Data Science, Legal, Privacy, Compliance, Procurement, Finance, and vendor partners.
  • Ability to define and track KPIs related to vendor performance, data usage, access, onboarding cycle times, catalog completeness, third-party access cycle times, issue resolution, renewal timelines, audit readiness, and spend.
  • Stays abreast of data governance, vendor management, privacy, compliance, data operations, and commercial data acquisition best practices
  • experience driving process improvement, operational simplification, and scalable controls.
