KBR Infrastructure Solutions Australia is currently supporting multiple projects to assist the Australian Government achieve its Optimal Path to safely and securely acquire and operate a fleet of conventionally-armed, Nuclear-Powered Submarines (NPS).
This is known as AUKUS Pillar 1. Our work opportunities are predominantly focused on the execution of a nuclear safety informed design process to assist our clients in the delivery of naval nuclear facilities and infrastructure thus enabling NPS operations in Australian.
The purpose of the position is to support KBR’s delivery of existing nuclear projects and provide additional capacity to organically develop nuclear expertise and capability within the business. Longer term this organically grown nuclear expertise will enhance KBR’s capabilities allowing KBR to offer new services and capture new nuclear related markets that will emerge in time.
A significant part of the role includes the ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams, with different partners, delivering the projects and assist with transfer of knowledge, skills and experience related to nuclear design, engineering and safety assurance.
Reporting to a nominated Senior Nuclear Design or Safety Assurance position. Roles & Responsibilities Delivery : Working within the KBR Nuclear Capability Team to establish the business systems and processes the project teams will follow on all of KBR’s nuclear infrastructure projects to ensure compliance with relevant international best practice, customer requirements and relevant nuclear legislation.
As a team member supporting the Project Director / Design Director, provides project / design management of the consultant’s contributing to the safety case, requirements definition, systems engineering, systems assurance and design substantiation to maintain compliance against the agreed requirements.
Aligns closely with KBR’s client, to carefully manage expectations and perception of KBR’s performance and alignment with their specific objectives. Strategy, Clients and winning new work Supports the development of the overall Defence and Nuclear strategy for KBR Infrastructure Solutions and Frazer-Nash with a particular focus on AUKUS Pillar 1 and the Nuclear-Powered Submarine Enterprise.
Aligns the strategy with all KBR’s business units, ensuring potential conflicts of interest are carefully navigated with all relevant stakeholders Leads specific short and long term initiatives that underpin this strategy and position KBR for future opportunities Lead the development and implementation of KBR Infrastructure Solutions strategy to organically grow, maintain and retain NSQEP engineering capabilities Leads the delivery of other emerging services relevant to the Nuclear Submarine Client group and related industries and services that will emerge from the enterprise in time.
Positioning with and key account management of agreed clients within the Nuclear Submarine enterprise broader civil nuclear industries Position for new project pursuits and deliver successful bids of varying sizes and complexities; both locally and nationally Prepare and delivery successful proposals Qualifications and Experience Engineering degree or other relevant qualification Extensive experience in the nuclear industry on the following topics: Safety informed design process Deterministic Safety Analysis Technical design substantiation Application of nuclear design standards and codes Construction and commissioning of facilities and infrastructure Regulation and Licensing Nuclear Management Systems, Process and Procedures Training development and delivery Management of a Nuclear Supply Chain The candidate must have or be eligible for Defence security clearance.
