Principal Software Engineering Manager

Overview Leads disciplined use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools across the software development lifecycle (SDLC), integrating Responsible AI practices and recommending improvements. Guides collaboration with stakeholders to confirm user requirements and leverages feedback channels for design improvements.

Owns and leads architecture discussions, manages design documents, evaluates new technologies, and reviews complex designs. Guides teams in creating test strategies, incorporating security testing, and leveraging AI tools for test automation.

Leads managing dependencies and collaborates across teams to align schedules and resolve conflicts. Guides development process, ensuring extensible, maintainable, and secure code using best practices. Acts as an expert in troubleshooting, applying least-access principles, and conducting incident retrospectives.

Leads code reviews, ensuring adherence to best practices. Drives project planning, anticipates future goals, and ensures compliance with security requirements. Guides experimentation, deployment, live site maintenance, and incident response, ensuring safe and efficient operations.

Integrates telemetry to monitor system behavior and improves designs based on analysis. Guides development tool selection and continuous integration in production. Ensures compliance with security and regulatory standards, mentors on learning and development, and advocates for best practices and security-informed engineering.

Responsibilities Build and coach a high-performing team of engineers and vendors, fostering accountability and execution excellence Define and drive the product roadmap for AI solutions that automate CELA Matters Management workflows in partnership with internal clients and the AI4CELA product management team Direct your engineers and vendors to deliver production-grade AI solutions that meet security and Responsible AI standards Own the governance and lifecycle of deployed AI solutions, including monitoring, maintenance, and continuous improvement Track and report business impact, feeding measurable results back into the solution roadmap Guides partnership with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project manager, technical lead) to determine user requirements within and across teams.

Guides teams and leads identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform. Optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).

Guides team to drive multiple group's project plans, release plans, and work items in coordination with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers). Guides team and acts as an expert for Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and monitors other engineers across product lines, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.

Leads product development and scaling to customer requirements and applies best practices for meeting scaling needs and performance expectations and holds accountability for products that do not meet expectations. Embody our culture and values Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience. 4+ years people management experience.

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $142,800 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
