These changes create enormous productivity gains, but they also introduce new risks that security teams and developer organizations need help understanding, prioritizing, and reducing. We are building the next generation of Microsoft Defender capabilities that help customers protect the software development lifecycle, from source code and dependencies through build systems, development environments, AI-assisted workflows, deployment pipelines, runtime environments, and incident response.
As a Senior Product Manager, you will own important customer scenarios and product investments within Microsoft Defender’s software supply chain protection portfolio. You will work closely with engineering, design, security research, GitHub, Azure, Windows, and customer-facing teams to define requirements, prioritize roadmap work, and deliver product capabilities that help customers secure modern development environments.
This is a technical product role that requires strong customer empathy, product judgment, execution discipline, and the ability to partner effectively across teams. Success requires turning complex security and developer workflow problems into clear product requirements, measurable outcomes, and high-quality customer experiences.
Responsibilities Own Microsoft Defender product areas and customer scenarios for software development lifecycle protection. Convert customer needs, threat trends, and technical requirements into product requirements, success metrics, and roadmap priorities.
Partner with engineering, design, research, data science, and security teams to deliver high-quality product experiences. Drive features that secure code, dependencies, build systems, developer environments, AI-assisted workflows, and deployment pipelines.
Align feature work across GitHub, Azure, Windows, Microsoft Defender, and field teams with customer needs and product strategy. Engage customers and field teams to validate scenarios, gather feedback, support previews, and improve adoption.
Use data, customer feedback, competitive insights, and security research to guide product decisions and investment priorities. Communicate product plans, tradeoffs, and progress clearly to engineering partners, stakeholders, and leadership.
Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related technical field AND 5+ years of experience in product management, program management, software engineering, security engineering, or related disciplines.
Experience delivering products or features in cybersecurity, developer tools, cloud services, enterprise software, or related technical domains. Demonstrated ability to define customer scenarios, product requirements, and success metrics for complex technical products.
Experience working with engineering teams to prioritize, build, launch, and iterate on product capabilities. Ability to translate technical concepts into clear customer value, product requirements, and business outcomes. Written, verbal, and cross-functional communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications Experience in software supply chain security, application security, DevSecOps, open-source ecosystems, or developer platform security. Working knowledge of source control, CI/CD pipelines, package management, build systems, SBOMs, and secure development lifecycle practices.
Experience with security products, threat intelligence, security operations, vulnerability management, or incident response workflows. Familiarity with AI-assisted software development and the security implications of generated code, agents, models, and development workflows.
Experience working with enterprise customers, field teams, or preview programs to validate and improve product capabilities. Relevant security certifications such as CISSP or CSSLP. Product Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year.
There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
