Become a part of our caring community The Senior Software Engineer – Data Engineering designs, develops, and supports enterprise data platform solutions that drive operational excellence, stability, and innovation across CenterWell Pharmacy (CWP) and Pharmacy Benefits Management (PBM).
This role partners closely with engineering leads, platform operations, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure reliable, scalable, and secure data systems. Assignments involve complex technical challenges where deep analysis and advanced evaluation of variable factors are required, with significant latitude for decision-making and influence on technology direction.
The Senior Software Engineer – Data Engineering contributes to the evolution and operational health of Humana’s enterprise data platform. This associate implements and maintains robust data pipelines, ensures adherence to Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes, and supports platform stability, scalability, and compliance.
Responsibilities include standardizing quality assurance practices, overseeing testing and debugging, developing solutions to resolve sophisticated data platform issues, and driving continuous improvement through early defect identification and remediation.
The role operates in a fast-paced, highly regulated healthcare environment, collaborating across engineering, product, security, compliance, and business teams to deliver technology solutions aligned with organizational objectives. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and optimize data pipelines, integration processes, and data platform assets using cloud-native technologies (e.g., Azure, Databricks, Snowflake).
Ensure operational excellence through adherence to SDLC rigor, application deployments, code commits, and comprehensive documentation. Implement and maintain change control processes using enterprise tools such as ServiceNow (SNOW), EAPM, and participate in technology lifecycle management (TLM).
Collaborate with platform operations, product owners, and business stakeholders to prioritize work and deliver scalable solutions that support pharmacy and PBM objectives. Contribute to cloud cost optimization efforts by developing efficient data solutions and monitoring resource usage.
Support compliance, security, and risk management practices, including vulnerability remediation and cyber hygiene. Document and communicate software changes, platform updates, and project milestones for transparency and knowledge sharing. Identify, prioritize, and remediate technical debt, driving system stability and quality improvement initiatives.
Work in an agile scrum team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and collaboration. Mentor other engineers, share technical best practices, and contribute to the team’s technical growth. Use your skills to make an impact Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent experience. 5+ years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, or enterprise data platform development.
Hands-on experience operating and supporting cloud-based data platforms (e.g., Azure, Databricks, Snowflake, or similar). Proficiency in SDLC, DevOps practices, and operational readiness disciplines. Experience designing, developing, and optimizing ETL/ELT pipelines, data lakes, and data warehouses.
Strong knowledge of change control processes and application lifecycle activities, including deployments, documentation, and production support. Experience with enterprise tools such as ServiceNow (SNOW) for change management. Proven ability to collaborate in cross-functional environments, aligning technology delivery with business priorities.
Knowledge of cloud cost optimization strategies and FinOps practices. Demonstrated ability to drive operational excellence, improve system stability, and implement quality improvement practices (e.g., early defect detection). Effective communication skills suitable for internal staff, leadership, and external stakeholders.
Experience supporting compliance, security, and risk management disciplines. Experience with large-scale data integration, event-based streaming, interoperability, and data sharing concepts. Experience with technologies such as Kafka, Temporal, Azure, GCP, and event streaming.
Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field. Experience supporting healthcare, pharmacy, or Pharmacy Benefits Management (PBM) domains. Experience operating enterprise data platforms supporting high-volume, near real-time ingestion and analytics workloads.
Familiarity with tools and processes such as EAPM, Technology Lifecycle Management (TLM), and vendor management. Exposure to data governance, data quality, and regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, PCI, DSCSA). Experience leading or supporting platform modernization initiatives.
Agile, Scrum, or DevOps certifications. Experience mentoring and developing other engineers. Additional Information Will report to Manager, Data Engineering (Technology Solutions). Scheduled Weekly Hours 40 Pay Range The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting.
The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc. $106,900 - $147,000 per year This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan.
