The position of Analyst is within our Abbott Rapid Diagnostics laboratory located at Abingdon, UK. This role requires the individual to undertake operations within the screening and confirmation department. The analysis of drugs of abuse in biological samples is conducted by either immunoassay (CEDIA, HEIA and ELISA) or by confirmatory techniques (such as LC/MS/MS), or by a combination of both.
Analysts must perform all analyses to appropriate safety standards, conform to current documented Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and must ensure that all analyses are conducted to the highest quality standards, whilst being completed in a timely manner.

Responsibilities
- Routine work – Daily Extractions Preparing lab reagents Running and saving SSTs Daily basic equipment checks and maintenance Keeping lab up to safe and efficient working standards (i.e. checking expiry dates) Maintenance of screening instruments including making reagents and QC’s where appropriate Equipment validations (i.e.
- Heaters, Fridges, Freezers, Pipettes) Cross training to be achieved and competencies gained and maintained to enable work in both screening and confirmation areas.
- Routine work – Non-daily and Site specific Undertake and complete provided training modules and assessments Perform stock checks and identify items requiring order to ensure stock is maintained Support the development and implementation of new processes and methods Act as a buddy for Trainee Analysts as required BASIC QUALIFICATIONS | EDUCATION: Science Graduate
- equivalent experience Understanding of the panels of drugs analysed at the laboratory and the reason for testing these Understanding of the types of extraction methods Understanding the appropriate health and safety considerations for the laboratory PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Previous experience in a laboratory environment Previous experience with the requirements listed in Responsibilities COMPETENCIES: Excellent attention to detail Keen interest in understanding principal of processes Is dynamic and tenacious Shows accountability and demonstrates ownership of their world Able to function well as an individual or as part of a team Able to take ownership of own work, awareness of when to solve a problem themselves or to ask their manager for help Conform with appropriate safety standards under The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 Work in accordance with the current documented Standard Operating Procedures.
