A Day in the Life The Senior Cybersecurity Specialist – Cryptography plays a critical role in protecting the data and systems that support Medtronic’s mission to save and improve lives.

This role helps lead enterprise encryption key management, public key infrastructure (PKI), code signing and certificate management standards across on‑prem and cloud platforms, enabling secure and resilient technology at scale. The specialist partners closely with application, infrastructure, product, and governance teams to embed cryptographic controls into enterprise platforms, provide guidance during architecture and design reviews, and enable automated certificate lifecycle management to reduce risk and operational disruption.

They contribute to cryptography strategy, prioritize initiatives based on risk and business impact, support audits and compliance activities, and mentor others to ensure consistent, secure adoption of cryptographic best practices across the organization.

R esponsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned. Drive and mature encryption key and certificate management standards across on ‑ prem and cloud platforms. Partner with application, infrastructure, and cloud teams to implement cryptographic controls into enterprise platforms.

Enable secure, automated certificate lifecycle management to reduce risk and operational disruption. Collaborate with product and business teams to translate security requirements into scalable solutions. Provide cryptographic guidance during system architecture and design reviews.

Contribute to the enterprise encryption and certificate management strategy. Prioritize initiatives based on security risk, regulatory needs, and business impact. Support implementation of industry ‑ standard cryptographic protocols and best practices in alignment with regulatory and cybersecurity standards.

Troubleshoot and resolve encryption, key, and certificate issues affecting production systems. Document standards, patterns, and processes to support consistent adoption at scale. Partner with governance teams to interpret and apply information protection policies.

Stay current on cryptographic standards, emerging threats, and industry advancements. Support audits, assessments, and compliance activities related to data protection. Lead or contribute to cross ‑ functional initiatives spanning security, infrastructure, and product teams.

Mentor and guide team members on cryptography concepts and secure design practices. Step into project leadership roles when needed to drive outcomes forward. Required Knowledge and Experience: 7+ years of overall IT experience. Experience with encryption key management, PKI, code signing, and certificate lifecycle management in on-prem and cloud enterprise environments.

Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve production issues related to keys, certificates, or encryption failures. Knowledge of regulatory and cybersecurity requirements related to encryption and data protection. Ability to provide cryptographic guidance during architecture and design reviews.

Ability to communicate cryptography concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders. NICE TO HAVE Previous work in a regulated or large enterprise environment. Experience with certificate management and automation solutions.

Experience with enterprise code signing solutions. Ability to support audits, assessments, and compliance activities related to encryption. Understands Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud. Knowledgeable about industry encryption standards and security protocols (TLS, IPsec, etc.).

Experience developing new policies, standards, and processes. Relevant security certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, CompTIA Security+, GIAC, or cloud security certifications.
