Become a part of our caring community The Senior Counsel – Labor and Employment ("L&E") provides strategic legal counsel on matters of significant organizational impact. The Senior Counsel – L&E is responsible for representing Humana entities in complex employment-related litigation.

This includes administrative charges and lawsuits involving discrimination, harassment, wage and hour, non-compete, and other L&E issues. In performing these tasks, the Senior Counsel – L&E independently drives decisions and sets legal strategies aligned with Humana's long-term vision and enterprise objectives.

The role requires working under minimal supervision, exercising independent judgment, and translating strategic goals into actions. The Senior Counsel – L&E also mentors and inspires others to advance these priorities, demonstrates accountability by exceeding established expectations, takes ownership for achieving results, and fosters a culture of responsibility across all stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities Manage and independently executing litigation strategy for matters from inception through resolution, including high-complexity employment disputes and restrictive covenant-related litigation Oversee and collaborate with outside counsel to ensure appropriate staffing, budget management, and case strategy Lead and conduct internal investigations regarding workplace issues Drafting and reviewing employment-related agreements, policies, handbooks, and training materials Serve as the primary legal advisor to Human Resources and business leadership.

You will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and best practices. This includes providing daily guidance on employee relations, performance management, workplace investigations, leaves of absence, accommodations, wage and hour compliance, and employee separations.

Use your skills to make an impact Required Qualifications Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA-accredited law school 7+ years of dedicated L&E law experience, with a mix of law firm and in-house corporate settings Active membership in a state bar association Strong business judgment and negotiation capabilities, with the ability to provide practical, risk-based legal advice and translate complex L&E concepts into applicable business strategies Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, complex organization, effectively prioritizing tasks and engaging with stakeholders at all levels, including senior leadership Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences Preferred Qualifications Prior in-house experience Experience supporting healthcare organizations Scheduled Weekly Hours 40 Pay Range The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting.

The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc. $168,000 - $231,000 per year This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan.
