This position is based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopaedics business to establish a standalone orthopaedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes.
The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 18 to 24 months, subject to legal requirements, including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as may be required, regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and approvals.
Should you accept this position, it is anticipated that, following conclusion of the transaction, you would be an employee of DePuy Synthes and your employment would be governed by DePuy Synthes employment processes, programs, policies, and benefit plans.

Purpose: The HEMA Lead, Canada is responsible for developing and executing the Health Economics, Market Access and Reimbursement strategy for DePuy Synthes in Canada to ensure timely, sustainable patient access to innovative orthopaedic solutions.
This role acts as a strategic partner to Commercial, Medical Affairs and Marketing and leads engagement with external healthcare stakeholders. You will be responsible for: Develop and execute the Canadian HEMA strategy aligned with global and international priorities.
Lead market access, reimbursement and funding strategies across provinces and care settings. Drive local generation and adaptation of clinical, economic and real‑world evidence to support HTA, payer and hospital decision‑making. Translate evidence into clear, compelling value propositions to enable access and adoption.
Lead engagement with provincial payers, HTA bodies, hospitals, clinicians and policymakers. Partner cross‑functionally with Sales, Marketing and Medical Affairs to enable access‑driven launches and growth. Provide HEMA input into brand strategy, portfolio prioritization and launch planning.
Monitor execution against HEMA priorities and business objectives, ensuring alignment to agreed plans, milestones and governance expectations. Ensure compliance with applicable quality, ethics and local regulatory requirements, consistent with HEMA standards.
This role may take on direct responsibility for a priority and strategic business at International and regional level, defined according to international needs, ensuring HEMA strategy and execution align with business priorities and performance objectives
Qualifications
- Minimum of a bachelor’s/university degree is required.
- Advanced degree in Health Economics, Public Health, Life Sciences or related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 6 years progressive business experience is required.
- Significant experience in market access or health economics, ideally in medical devices.
- Strong knowledge of the Canadian healthcare and HTA environment.
- Strategic business partner mindset.
- Patient-focused and value-driven.
- Effective leader in a matrix environment.
- Up to 20% business travel may be required.
- The expected base pay range for this position is $107,000 to $184,575 CAD.
