- From Fivetran’s founding until now, our mission has remained the same: to make access to data as simple and reliable as electricity. With Fivetran, customer data arrives in their warehouses, canonical and ready to query, with no engineering or maintenance required. We’re proud that more organizations continue to leverage our technology every day to become truly data-driven. About Us Fivetran and dbt Labs are bringing together two industry-leading companies with a shared mission: helping organizations unlock the full value of their data. Together, we’re delivering the data infrastructure layer that helps organizations move, transform
- trust their data — from the moment data moves, through every transformation, to the context teams and AI systems rely on. Fivetran helps organizations automate data movement across the systems, clouds, engines
- tools they rely on. dbt Labs pioneered analytics engineering, helping teams transform data into reliable, governed insights. Together, we support thousands of organizations as they build a trusted foundation for analytics, AI
- better business decisions. As we bring our teams and technology together, we’re building on the strengths of both companies while continuing to deliver the products and experiences our customers know and trust. It’s an exciting time to join us: we’re creating a company with the scale, talent
- technology to help more organizations put their data to work with greater speed, confidence
- impact. During this transition period, you may see references to both Fivetran and dbt Labs throughout our recruiting process as we integrate our teams, systems
- career sites. About the Role We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join the Platform Ops team (Platform Engineering) and lead initiatives that enable developer productivity by building and improving developer tooling and environments
- by improving other productivity tools around observability. Our team builds the shared systems and workflows engineers rely on every day—internal developer environments and self-serve tooling that makes the recommended way to ship changes the easiest way. This is a platform tooling role with a focus is on reusable capabilities and self-service workflows adopted across teams. You’ll also help develop AI-based workflows for productivity and efficiency, including automation that improves infrastructure operations (for example, faster triage, automated runbook steps
- better self-service for common issues). You’ll prioritize the highest-impact problems by looking at where time is being lost today (slow builds, flaky tests, manual release steps, repetitive operational work) and turning that into concrete projects. You’ll set clear success metrics up front and use them to guide design decisions and rollouts. Expect to partner closely with engineering teams to drive adoption, document changes
- iterate based on feedback. You’ll drive cross-team work across internal tooling, developer environments, observability
- reliability, focusing on measurable improvements (for example: shorter lead time, fewer incidents
- faster recovery). You’ll add automation and enable developer workflows across all three major cloud environments (AWS, Azure
- GCP). As a staff engineer on the team, you’ll lead medium-to-large initiatives end-to-end: define the problem with stakeholders, write a design and rollout plan, build and operate the solution in Python/Go
- measure results. You’ll work across Platform Engineering, Release Engineering, Security
- product engineering teams to make improvements that are adopted broadly and remain reliable over time. What You’ll Do Lead end-to-end projects that improve developer tooling, environments
- operational workflows (speed, reliability
- safety) Design and operate internal tooling/services in Python and/or Go Build tooling for our internal developer platform (self-service workflows, shared patterns, developer-facing interfaces) Add automation and enable developer workflows across all three major cloud environments (AWS, Azure
- GCP) Develop AI-based workflows that improve developer experience and reduce repetitive manual work, including efficiency gains in infrastructure operations Improve developer feedback loops through better observability (metrics/logs/traces), making failures easier to diagnose Design/build and document “paved paths” and self-service capabilities so teams can ship without extensive platform expertise Improve reliability through automation and observability (metrics/logs/traces)
- drive incident follow-ups to reduce recurrence Set technical direction (design docs, tradeoffs, sequencing) and drive delivery across stakeholders Mentor engineers through design and code reviews Skills We’re Looking For : Strong experience building and operating production services in Python and/or Go Experience with at least one cloud provider ( AWS , Azure
- GCP ) and core primitives (IAM, networking, compute) Experience building developer productivity tooling (CI systems, build tooling, developer portals, workflow automation) Track record leading ambiguous, cross-team technical projects to completion Strong communication and engineering judgment You'll have an edge if you have : Kubernetes/platform abstractions experience Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/OpenTofu), including reusable modules, safe state practices
- modernization of shared platform foundations Experience building internal developer platforms (IDPs) / developer portals / self-service tooling #LI-HYBRID #LI-JI1 Perks and Benefits 100% employer-paid medical insurance * Generous paid time-off policy (PTO), plus paid sick time, inclusive parental leave policy, holidays
- volunteer days off RSU stock grants* Professional development and training opportunities Company virtual happy hours, free food
- fun team-building activities Monthly cell phone stipend Access to an innovative mental health support platform that offers personalized care and resources in areas such as: therapy, coaching
- self-guided mindfulness exercises for all covered employees and their covered dependents.
