The Director - Legal & Compliance & WREF Digital & Tech Architect defines and governs the architectural framework for a specific Product Domain, ensuring that technology decisions support business goals and enable the successful delivery of domain Products.
The role partners with senior stakeholders to guide solution direction, establish domain standards and principles, and provide architectural leadership across solutions delivered within the domain. The Product Domain Architect ensures that products are designed in a way that is scalable, interoperable, and aligned to agreed business and technology objectives.
The Director - Legal & Compliance & WREF Digital & Tech Architect is responsible for defining and governing the technology architecture that underpins a bold transformation in Legal & Compliance. This leadership role combines architecture, AI innovation and delivery enablement.
The successful candidate will shape a modern architecture that balances enterprise standards, with rapid innovation. The role ensures we can explore and deploy AI solutions in Legal & Compliance and WREF while understanding what it takes to integrate various systems of a record with AI solutions in order to fundamentally rethink existing processes and drive self-enablement within the functions.
The role will act as the senior technical advisor to the Senior Director, L&C&W Digital & Tech, product teams and business leaders. They will ensure every technology investment in Legal & Compliance and WREF contributes towards a coherent long term technology strategy.
Key Responsibilities Define the Legal & Compliance and WREF technology architecture strategy, aligned to broader GSK Tech Enterprise Architecture. Define and maintain the architectural framework, standards, and schematics for the Product Domain, including domain-specific principles, patterns, data flows, and interface models.
Introduce and govern a Domain Standards Catalogue (e.g., principles, reference patterns, SLAs, reusable assets), ensuring lifecycle ownership, version control, and adoption across delivery teams. Partner with senior Business and Tech stakeholders to guide domain technology decisions, ensuring alignment to business goals, risk appetite, and product delivery priorities.
Provide architectural guidance to Solution Architects and delivery teams, enabling consistent design approaches; define reusable domain contracts and interface specifications with versioning, observability, and interoperability requirements.
Produce and maintain architecture artefacts for the domain (e.g., reference architectures, models, integration schematics, contract definitions, security patterns) required to support delivery and operational readiness. Including multi-year technology arcihtectures across Legal Operations, eDiscovery, Intellectual Property, Corporate Security, Smart Buildings, Workplace Experience, Data & Analytics Support compliance and EARB processes, including architecture review checkpoints, exemption criteria, design sign-off, and updates to the domain technical debt register.
Chair the Legal & Compliance and WREF Architecture reviews for all significant technology investments. Lead AI Architecture vision for Legal & Compliance and WREF including for GenAI, Agentic AI, Legal LLMs and AI Platforms (e.g Harvey, Legora), CoPilots.
Maintain a regular cadence with Enterprise Architecture, Security, and Data Architecture to align on standards, resolve cross-domain design challenges, and support enterprise-level use cases and digital ecosystem interoperability. Design Architectures that support self enablement and process reimagination, autonomous workflows and with human-in-the-loop governance Establish principles for selecting when to use Enterprise AI offerings, Specialist Legal AI or Bespoke AI solutions Lead technical due diligence for strategic technology investments Key Relationships/Customers Business Stakeholders Business Process Owners Business Strategy / Transformation Partners Functional Leadership Tech Stakeholders Solution Architects within the domain Product Directors & Owners within the domain Engineering / Development Teams Enterprise Architecture Data, Security or Platform Architecture Teams Other Third-party providers Education & Professional Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Information Technology, or Engineering), or equivalent experience.
Industry certifications highly desirable (e.g., TOGAF, cloud certifications). Strong understanding of Microsoft Azure, M365, MS CoPilot, Enterprise AI platforms, API management, Integration platforms, Information Governance, Cyber Security and Controls, Cloud Native architrctures, deep understanding of SaaS Area of Specialisation Solution and domain architecture, architectural modelling, technology evaluation, integration patterns, and architectural governance.
Desirable if have experience of Legal, Compliance or Real Estate technology/AI solutions Minimum Level of Job-Related Experience Required Typically 18+ years in architecture or technical design roles, including experience applying architecture principles within a product or domain context – ideally Legal & Compliance technologies Demonstrated ability to define architectural patterns, standards, or frameworks.
Experience reviewing and guiding solution designs to ensure alignment with architectural requirements. Practical experience documenting domain models, interface specifications, and other architectural artefacts and Architecture governance experience Exposure to evaluating technology decisions and advising stakeholders with clear architectural rationale.
Experience collaborating with business and product teams to anchor architecture to value and delivery needs. Other Job-Related Skills/Background Strong analytical and conceptual modelling skills. Ability to communicate architectural concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Ability to challenge and influence design decisions constructively and influencing without authority Strong documentation and design-modelling skills. Awareness of emerging technologies and ability to apply them within the domain context. Impact Ensures technology decisions support the successful delivery of domain Products while maintaining architectural integrity. Architectural direction directly affects cost, quality, scalability, and long-term sustainability of solutions within the Product Domain.
