Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as Remote within the specific province, meaning the selected candidate may be based anywhere in the province of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba or British Columbia and is not expected to report to a GM worksite unless directed by their manager.
This role requires frequent travel within the assigned district (at least 50% or as determined by your manager). Job Summary: District Managers – Sales have territorial responsibility for the administration of the Dealer Sales and Service Agreements (DSSA) between General Motors of Canada Company (GMCC) and its dealer network.
They are accountable for all vehicle sales and marketing activities in their district and act as trusted advisors to dealerships, collaborating on the development and implementation of business plans that drive retail sales, market share, revenue, and customer experience improvements.
This position supports and guides regional marketing plans and strategies into the district and assists in identifying opportunities and developing plans to grow retail sales, market share and revenue. Key Focus Areas: The successful candidate will focus on and be measured against the following key areas: Retail sales vs.
Objective Market share performance Consensus Coverage LPO Accessories vs. Objective Improve Customer Satisfaction (PDSS) and customer retail experience Key Responsibilities: Sales and Market Share Performance Develop and execute a district business plan to achieve retail sales and market share objectives, ensuring strong coverage of estimated and available shipping.
Achieve district-level sales and share targets by analyzing sales, inventory, market share, and competitive data to identify opportunities and gaps, and build dealer-specific action plans. Drive improvement at poor-performing market share dealers through focused performance improvement plans (e.g., DPIP / DRER / focus dealers).
Drive effective dealer-level forecasting processes, leveraging tools and reports to ensure the right mix and timing of product. Consensus Coverage Lead and motivate dealers through consensus cycles and ordering calls , ensuring ordering strategies capitalize on vehicle line and ICE / EV opportunities to grow market share.
Develop plans and strategies to maximize vehicle order coverage that supports retail sales, balancing production constraints and dealer inventory needs. Support adjacent revenue performance: Accessory sales, OnStar, GM Protection Plan (GMPP), GM Financial products.
Customer Satisfaction and Retail Experience Develop and execute a district business plan to achieve CSI and retail experience objectives , including support for GMCC CSI initiatives and the Retail Excellence Program. Build a customer-focused culture within the dealer network; ensure processes and procedures support customers and build advocacy throughout the ownership lifecycle.
Champion continuous improvement of the digital customer experience (websites, digital retailing, CRM processes) and implement retail innovation that enhances the retail journey. Drive CSI performance and address negative-impact dealerships through structured action plans; manage escalated customer complaints with a “win–win” orientation.
Work with dealers on Google Reviews, helping to increase response rate, addressing any negative comments in a timely manner. Dealer Network, Marketing and Communications Support utilization of GM initiatives to build and maintain a strong dealer organization (e.g., GM Image Program, OnStar, Certified Pre-Owned, GM Pro Training, REP).
Monitor dealer compliance with GMCC advertising standards and support Regional Marketing Advisory Board (RMAB) campaigns and specifications; champion key-city joint advertising initiatives as appropriate. Ensure dealers maximize Business Development, leveraging digital strategies (websites, digital packages, CRM) and GM tools such as Dealer Direct, DealDriver Pro, Inventory Balancing Tool, sales and product training, and recognition programs (President’s Club, SMG, GM Elite).
Establish and develop key EV dealer advocates in the district to support GM’s EV strategy and growth. Maintain strong communications, and ensure understanding of programs, processes, and performance expectations. Keep Regional Manager Sales and regional leadership well informed of all major sales-related issues, opportunities, and compliance matters within the district.
Governance, Compliance and Special Assignments Monitor dealership profitability, identify improvement opportunities, and support dealer profitability initiatives as required. Track dealer performance on key sales indicators, document progress, and ensure timely follow-up on action plans.
Complete special assignments as required by the Regional Manager or Regional leadership. Required Skills: Successful completion of a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or MBA degree in one of the following areas: Economics, Sales, Marketing, Business Administration or related fields Unrestricted mobility and ability to relocate as business needs require Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills, with a demonstrated desire to win and continuously drive results and improvements.
Superior analytical abilities combined with sound decision-making and judgment skills; ability to effectively prioritize work and manage a heavy workload. Self-starter with strong drive for results, ability to lead, adapt to change, and manage stress effectively.
Strong sales and negotiation skills; proven ability to work independently and within cross-functional and virtual team environments. Experience as a District Sales Manager / District Manager Sales or in a closely related field-based sales role, ideally within automotive or a related industry.
Understanding of GM’s distribution processes, field sales tools, and reports. Valid Driver’s License (or provincial equivalent) and requirement to travel frequently (approximately 50% or more). Willingness to work extended hours on occasion, including month-end or other peak periods, as required.
Preferred Skills: Recent graduates should be graduating between December 2025 and August 2026 Automotive wholesale or retail industry experience. In-depth understanding of vehicle marketing, digital advertising, and retail processes, including digital retailing and CRM best practices.
Experience with GM field tools (Dealer Direct, DealDriver Pro, GM Financial tools, CSI and market share reporting) to drive performance, considered an asset
Compensation
- The salary range for this role is $70,000 to $120, 000 CAD.
- The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
