Bank Title: Vice President Business Title: Head of Systematic Equity Research — India Location: Bangalore, India Who we are looking for A senior research leader to head the Systematic Equity research team in Bangalore (10+ members), covering systematic equity strategies across a wide range of risk profiles, from active to indexing and custom solutions.
The role combines strong people leadership and deep quantitative research credibility, with a focus on driving research excellence within a globally integrated innovation model. The successful candidate will play a critical role in advancing the team’s research productivity by overseeing a state-of-the-art research platform, embedding modern tools including AI-enabled workflows into day-to-day research, and strengthening model development and operational rigor.

The Bangalore Systematic Equity Research team is a global center of excellence for systematic equity research and AI-led research modernization. This role is critical to scaling that impact, deepening client engagement from the region, and unlocking State Street Investment Management’s next leg of growth in India.
What you will be responsible for Lead the Systematic Equity research team in Bangalore (10+ members) across Active, Indexing, and Custom Solutions — delivering high-quality research as part of a globally coordinated research platform. Contribute to and oversee the local execution of the global research agenda , partnering with the global senior research leadership and PM/CPM teams across the US, EMEA, and APAC.
Drive research on alpha, core factors, index design, and portfolio construction — from idea generation through to production implementation. Lead the adoption of AI-enabled tools and workflows within the research process to enhance productivity, insight generation, and speed to implementation.
Support the full lifecycle of model development and operation , including engagement with Model Risk Management (MRM) and management of model changes and governance processes. Anchor State Street IM’s emerging India research partnerships — representing the firm in joint research initiatives and co-developed workstreams with external partners.
Mentor and develop AVP- and Officer-level researchers , sustaining a strong talent pipeline. Contribute to thought leadership through internal and external research publications and presentations. Education & Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree (PhD/MS) in a quantitative discipline (CS, Math, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, Finance, or Economics) from a premier institute.
CFA preferred. 10+ years of experience in quantitative finance, systematic equity research, or data science. Proven track record of leading research teams , including senior research direct reports. Deep expertise in quantitative equity investing , with strong grounding in statistics and machine learning (including NLP/LLM applications).
Excellent coding skills in Python and SQL ; familiarity with modern data platforms (Databricks, cloud) and AI/ML frameworks. Experience with research partnerships or co-developed workstreams with external firms is desirable. Exposure to Sustainable / Climate / ESG investing preferable.
