About The Role
- As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design, develop, and operate secure, scalable software solutions that support critical business capabilities and customer outcomes. You will:
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain high-quality software solutions that meet Mastercard standards for security, reliability, scalability, and operational excellence.
- Independently drive technical initiatives from concept through production, navigating ambiguity, managing dependencies, and delivering measurable business outcomes.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, operations, security, and compliance partners to translate business needs into well-designed technical solutions.
- Contribute to architecture and design decisions for distributed systems, APIs, integrations, and platform capabilities, balancing business priorities with long-term maintainability.
- Own software services throughout their lifecycle, including implementation, deployment, monitoring, incident response, and continuous improvement.
- Troubleshoot complex application and production issues using logs, metrics, traces, debugging tools, and systematic root cause analysis techniques.
- Participate in on-call support, incident reviews, and operational readiness activities while driving improvements that enhance reliability and reduce operational toil.
- Apply secure-by-design and privacy-conscious engineering practices when working with sensitive financial and consumer data.
- Foster engineering excellence through code reviews, technical mentoring, knowledge sharing, and promotion of development best practices.
- Continuously improve automation, testing, observability, developer experience, and software delivery processes.
- Use approved AI-assisted engineering tools responsibly to improve productivity while applying sound engineering judgment, rigorous validation

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong foundation in software engineering principles including system design, source control, testing, debugging, performance analysis, maintainability, and secure software development.
- Expert-level proficiency with Java (17+) and Spring-based application development.
- Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and service integrations.
- Experience developing cloud-native applications and distributed systems, preferably in Azure environments.
- Proficient with distributed source control systems (e.g., Git), including branching strategies, code review workflows, conflict resolution, and release management practices.
- Experience working within modern CI/CD environments, including build automation, deployment pipelines, release validation, and operational support.
- Demonstrated ability to investigate and resolve complex production issues through structured troubleshooting, evidence-based decision-making, and root cause analysis.
- Strong understanding of observability practices including logging, monitoring, metrics, dashboards, distributed tracing, and reliability-oriented alerting.
- Experience with modern data platforms and databases, including data modeling, scalability, performance, and operational trade-offs.
- Working knowledge of authentication, authorization, secrets management, vulnerability management, and secure handling of sensitive data in regulated environments.
- Strong ownership mindset with a proven ability to take initiative, drive work to completion, remove blockers, and deliver results with limited supervision.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across teams, influence technical decisions, and communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfortable using approved AI-assisted development tools and applying critical judgment to validate AI-generated outputs before production use.

- Experience in payments, fintech, commerce, banking, fraud prevention, or other regulated industries.
- Experience building high-throughput, highly available, or event-driven systems.
- Experience with batch processing, workflow orchestration, or large-scale data pipelines.
- Experience incorporating AI-enabled capabilities into products or engineering workflows.
