About the role The DRLP provides oversight of surplus lines licensing compliance and regulatory adherence. This role ensures that surplus lines transactions are conducted in accordance with applicable state laws, licensing obligations and internal control standards.
This position requires extensive knowledge of surplus lines requirements across multiple jurisdictions, advising business stakeholders and maintaining the compliance framework
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee processes related to affidavits and disclosures, premium tax reporting and remittance, stamping office submissions, broker responsible forms and policy documentation and record retention.
- Monitor regulatory bulletins and assess operational impact.
- Partner with Legal and Compliance to maintain and enhance controls supporting surplus lines activities.
- Maintain filing calendars and coordinate responses to routine DOI inquiries.
- Track state premium tax requirements, coordinate with Finance for payments, and monitor state filing deadlines.
- Support internal and external audits, regulatory exams and inquires from state departments of insurance.
- Contribute to governance forums and provide metrics to key stakeholders.
- Key qualifications: 8+ years business experience, preferably with general insurance and surplus lines knowledge and prior regulatory experience.
- Background in operational risk, internal controls or governance functions Good organizational skills with ability to prioritize tasks to completion within deadlines.
- Ability to analyze business processes and clearly articulate observations and recommendations.
- Ability to work independently and within teams.
- Proficient Excel skills to analyze and summarize data and PowerPoint to present results.
- Good communication and presentation skills, with the ability to facilitate meetings and discussions.
- Active P&C License Active Surplus Lines License Active A&H License Experience executing DRLP-related filings and attestations Experience supporting regulatory exams and audits Experience monitoring premium tax reporting obligations Technical and practical knowledge of: State insurance licensing requirements Surplus lines regulations Premium tax requirements NIPR and state insurance dept filing processes For positions based in NYC, the base salary range is $120,000 - $131,000.
- For positions based in NJ, the base salary range is $120,000 - $130,000.
- For positions based in Illinois, the base salary range is $119,000 - $128,000.
- For positions based in MA, the base salary range is $ $120,000 - $130,000 and the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
