The Product Strat & Plan Group Mgr. manages multiple teams through other managers. In-depth understanding of how own sub-function contributes to achieving the objectives of the function. A good understanding of the industry, direct competitors' products and services, is also necessary in order to contribute to the commercial objectives of the business.

Requires thorough understanding of strategic direction of the function within the relevant part of the business, combined with a solid conceptual/practical grounding in both the function and/or area of expertise and related subject areas. Excellent communication skills required in order to negotiate internally, often at a senior level.

Some external communication/negotiation may be necessary. Responsible for executing functional strategy in area managed. Determines approach to implementing functional strategy. Accountable for end results, budgeting, planning, policy formulation and contribution to future strategy of the area(s).

Impact reflects size of team managed, strategic influence on the business and interaction with other functions or businesses. Full management responsibility for multiple teams, including management of people, budget and planning, to include duties such as performance evaluation, compensation, hiring, disciplinary actions and terminations and budget approval.

Responsibilities

  • The Product Strategy & Planning Group Manager directs, designs and implements a comprehensive product marketing cycle which may include identification of market potential, establishing of pricing and market strategies, estimates of potential sales, introduction to market, distribution/channel issues
  • definition of promotional activities and management of product through phase-out Plans, organizes and coordinates assigned programs to ensure accomplishment of financial/budgetary goals Coordinates program planning with client to ensure identification of appropriate delivery schedules, goals, design criteria, costs and similar considerations Conducts pre-contract liaison role with client and may participate in contract negotiation activities and coordinates details of program within the company across a wide range of functions and products Reviews potential changes in scope of contract and advises management and client of potential impact of changes Coordinates product introduction and market exploitation with marketing and sales organizations to ensure maximum penetration of market segment.
  • Provides continuing product surveillance and management of assigned products and categories to attain financial objectives Manages multiple teams of senior professionals through other senior managers Engages in a wide range of diverse activities that require strategic vision and analysis and typically thinks beyond the existing solutions, assumptions or current knowledge of sophisticated areas that ultimately affect the business/geographic region or a major segment of it Develops medium- to long-term plans and executes functional strategies for a large/complex country, cluster of countries
  • business requiring coordination and integration across units and provides input into strategic decisions affecting job family or function within a region or business Has full management responsibility of multiple teams, including management of people, budget and planning and the authority to negotiate and make independent decisions on issues/activities that have critical impact or influence on company revenues, capital or business operations Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices
  • escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards

Qualifications

  • 10+ years' managerial experience A broad and comprehensive understanding of the different systems, theories and practices relevant to a function as well as practical experience of multiple business cycles In-depth knowledge of the industry and direct competitors' products/services is also necessary in order to contribute to the commercial objectives of the business Thorough understanding of strategic direction of the function within the business, combined with a solid conceptual/practical grounding in both the function and/ or area of expertise Excellent communication skills required in order to influence a wide range of audiences Experienced internal and external negotiations skills to ensure appropriate level of oversight on matters which have a major impact on the area managed
  • possibly on other related areas and organization as a whole Education: Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred This job description provides a high-level review of the types of work performed.
