All Job Posting Locations: Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India Job Description: Job Position Title: EHS MANAGER Scope: J&J Aurangabad Site Select Exemption Status Job Family Group: Environmental Health, Safety (EH&S) Job Family: Multi-Family EHS Services SECTION 1: JOB SUMMARY The EHS Manager will be responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of comprehensive Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs at the Aurangabad site.
This role ensures full compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as J&J’s strict internal Global EHS standards. The ideal candidate will foster a proactive safety culture, leading accident prevention initiatives and managing environmental sustainability.
SECTION 2: DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Compliance & Audit: Ensure 100% compliance with local statutory laws and J&J global EHS policies. Conduct regular EHS audits, risk assessments and site inspections. Operational Safety: Lead the implementation of "Absolute Safety" principles (e.g., LOTO, Hot Work, Machine Safety) on the shop floor.
Incident Management: Lead root-cause investigations of incidents, near-misses, and accidents; ensure timely implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA). Training & Awareness: Design and deliver comprehensive EHS training programs for employees and contractors.
Organize safety week celebrations and Environment Day initiatives. Contractor Management: Implement contractor safety management systems to ensure compliance during maintenance and construction activities. Reporting & Metrics: Maintain accurate records of all EHS activities, KPIs, and audits.
Prepare reports for upper management and regulatory authorities. Emergency Response: Serve as the lead for the site’s Emergency Response Plan (ERP), coordinating mock drills and acting as an Emergency Officer. Sustainability: Implement waste management programs (hazardous/non-hazardous) and environmental compliance (air, water, noise pollution control). 2.1 Authorities of EHS Manager (Johnson & Johnson MedTech / Surgery) Holds independent functional EHS authority at the site to protect employees, contractors, visitors, patients, and the community, in alignment with the Johnson & Johnson Credo and MedTech / Surgery EHS governance model.
Exercises absolute Stop‑Work / Shutdown Authority to immediately suspend any operation, task, or contractor activity where there is potential for serious injury, fatality, significant process safety event, or environmental harm, consistent with J&J Life‑Critical Risk Management expectations.
Authorized to mandate compliance with J&J Global EHS Policies, Standards, and Procedures, including MedTech / Surgery sector requirements, even when these exceed local regulatory or statutory minimums. Acts as the site EHS technical and governance authority, empowered to approve, withhold, or revoke EHS clearance for: New equipment installation or commissioning Process, layout, or material changes through Management of Change (MOC) High‑risk activities and contractor mobilization where J&J EHS or legal requirements are not fully met.
Has unrestricted access to all site locations, operations, systems, records, and personnel to conduct EHS inspections, risk assessments, audits, incident investigations, and critical control verifications. Authorized to lead and ensure integrity of incident reporting, investigation, and learning, including event classification and reporting in J&J systems (e.g., CURVE), in accordance with J&J incident transparency and non‑retaliation expectations.
Empowered to require risk assessments, engineering and administrative controls, permit‑to‑work systems, training, and defined CAPA timelines, and to escalate non‑closure or ineffective controls to Site and Regional Leadership. Holds authority over contractor EHS governance, including approval, suspension, or removal of contractors for non‑compliance with J&J Contractor Safety, Critical Risk, or site EHS requirements.
Authorized to escalate unresolved or unacceptable EHS risks directly to Site Leader, Regional EHS, Franchise / Sector EHS, or Corporate EHS without obstruction, consistent with J&J Speak‑Up culture and Credo responsibilities. Provides independent EHS challenge to line leadership decisions while supporting the principle that EHS ownership resides with line management, ensuring strong governance, accountability, and sustainable safety performance.
SECTION 3: EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION* Education: Bachelor’s degree in science, Engineering, or Occupational Health & Safety. A Post Graduate Diploma in Safety is preferred. Experience: Minimum 10-15 years of experience in EHS, preferably in a pharmaceutical, medical device, or chemical manufacturing environment.
Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of Indian EHS statutes (Factories Act 1948) and ISO 14001/ISO 45001 standards. SECTION 4: REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES and AFFILIATIONS Strong influencing and leadership skills drive a safety culture.
Excellent communication skills (written and spoken English and Marathi/Hindi). Proficiency in data management tools (Excel, EHS Software).
