ONCOLOGY STRATEGY DIRECTOR What you will do Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role, you will lead strategic initiatives that shape Amgen’s Oncology Therapeutic Area future, with a focus on topics in the R&D space. While the role can be located remotely there is an expectation that availability at times of high activity may need to accommodate some Pacific Time Zone working hours.
Lead and manage strategic, cross-functional projects commissioned by Development leadership. Independently drive project execution and influence stakeholders across multiple functions and levels. Develop and support annual therapeutic area strategies, including oncology portfolio planning.
Conduct technology assessments, deep-dive analyses, and landscape evaluations. Perform cross-portfolio analytics, risk assessments, and strategic decision-support activities. Support scientific collaborations with external academic partners through the Amgen Partners of Choice program.
Facilitate scientific exchange and coordinate partnership-related projects. Manage global external communications and represent the organization with key external stakeholders. Serve as a trusted advisor and representative for Development leadership.
Navigate ambiguity and lead ad hoc strategic initiatives and special projects as business needs arise. What we expect of you We are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients. The dynamic professional we seek is a leader with these qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Doctorate degree and 4 years of healthcare business experience Or Master’s degree and 7 years of healthcare business experience Or Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of healthcare business experience Preferred Qualifications: MD, MBA, MS, Ph.D. or equivalent Eight (8) or more years of strategy experience within management consulting, finance
- corporate strategy functions Robust knowledge of biopharma industry (i.e., pharma development, translational sciences, R&D processes) Understanding of interplay among various stakeholders in the industry, awareness of trends and recent developments
- ability to research / learn/ synthesize findings on new topics Oncology R&D experience in the biopharmaceutical industry (biotech, pharmaceutical company) Excellent cross-functional communication skills and a decisive yet affiliative leadership style to drive results while maintaining relationships Strong presence with Senior Executives including ability to communicate effectively on a prepared and ad-hoc basis Proven experience as a member and leader of a high performing team What you can expect of us As we work to develop treatments that take care of others, we also work to care for your professional and personal growth and well-being.

- Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
