Role Description As a member of the Module and Enclosure Design team, draft 2D and 3D models. Conduct structural analysis and participate in cost-down efforts. Take a design from prototyping into high- volume production, in collaboration with Test, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain teams.
Duties include: 1. Design and prototype mechanical and electro-mechanical module components that meet performance and functional requirements, optimizing for manufacturability, performance, material weight, and cost; 2. Guide critical vendor engagements, and transition system designs from prototype to high- volume production in collaboration with manufacturing engineers; 3.
Co-develop interface requirements and designs working with the Cell Design and Enclosure Design teams; 4. Perform compliance studies and testing for module components; 5. Participate in line bring up builds, fabricating, and testing first-of-a-kind prototypes to validate system design choices; 6.
Create system-level functional requirements from product-level requirements. Position Requirements: A Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field followed by 4 years of post-baccalaureate experience in a mechanical design engineering-related occupation.
Experience must include the following, which may have been gained concurrently: 1) 4 years of experience with 3D CAD and 2D drafting using SolidWorks or a similar program; 2) 4 years of experience with first-principles modeling; 3) 4 years of experience designing and optimizing models for manufacturing and cost-down; 4) 4 years of experience with a variety of manufacturing processes, including electronics assembly, sheet metal assembly, and welding; 5) 2 years of experience with a variety of fabrication techniques, including sheet metal and CNC machining.
