Senior Designer
Title: Senior Designer Job Title Process SPPID Designer Division and/or Project Hook KBR’s Sustainable Technology Solutions (STS) group is seeking a Process SPPID Designer to support engineering and design activities for major industrial, energy, petrochemical, LNG, and infrastructure projects.
The role involves the development, maintenance, and quality assurance of Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) using Smart Plant P&ID (SPPID), ensuring compliance with project standards, engineering requirements, and client specifications.
Summary Section The Process SPPID Designer will be responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) throughout the project lifecycle. The role includes coordinating with process engineers, instrumentation engineers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure accurate representation of process systems, equipment, piping, instrumentation, and control philosophy within the Smart Plant environment.
The Designer will also perform quality checks, support data consistency, and ensure compliance with project execution procedures and industry standards. The Process SPPID Designer will report to the Lead Designer / Design Supervisor
Responsibilities
- Develop, modify, and maintain Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) using Smart Plant P&ID (SPPID).
- Prepare and update engineering drawings based on process design inputs, markups, and client comments.
- Ensure consistency and accuracy of equipment, piping, valves, instruments, line lists, and process data within the Smart Plant database.
- Coordinate with Process, Instrumentation, Mechanical, and Piping disciplines to resolve design issues and maintain drawing integrity.
- Perform quality checks and validation of P&IDs to ensure compliance with project standards and specifications.
- Generate reports and extract engineering data from Smart Plant P&ID as required by project teams.
- Support project deliverables, including As-Built documentation and revision management.
- Maintain drawing and database standards in accordance with company procedures and client requirements.
- Participate in design reviews, interdisciplinary coordination meetings, and model reviews as required.
- Assist in the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives related to Smart Plant design workflows.
- Qualifications including Required Education, Experience, & Skills: ITI / Diploma / Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Draftsman, or related Engineering discipline.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in Process P&ID design and drafting activities.
- Strong hands-on experience with Smart Plant P&ID (SPPID).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and MicroStation.
- Experience working on Process, Oil & Gas, LNG, Petrochemical, Refinery, Chemical, or Industrial projects.
- Good understanding of P&ID symbology, engineering standards, and drafting practices.
- Ability to interpret Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), equipment layouts, and engineering specifications.
- Familiarity with tag management, line numbering, instrumentation, and database-driven engineering applications.
- Strong communication and coordination skills with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications, including Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Preferred Qualifications Education, Experience, & Skills: Additional certifications or advanced qualifications in Engineering Design or Drafting.
- Experience with Smart Plant Foundation (SPF), Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI), or other Hexagon engineering tools.
- Experience working on EPC/EPCM projects.
- Knowledge of international standards and industry codes related to Process Engineering and P&ID development.
- Experience supporting digital engineering, data validation, and engineering database management activities.
- Ability to mentor junior designers and support project standardization initiatives.
