In this vital role you will serve as a strategic partner to the VP Research and the Inflammation Leadership Team, translating TA strategy into measurable priorities, operating plans
  • outcomes. You will facilitate strategic planning, organizational effectiveness, technology and AI-enabled initiatives, business operations
  • executive communications across the Inflammation Therapeutic Area. This role combines scientific insight, strategic thinking, operational leadership
  • organizational influence to accelerate delivery of transformative medicines to patients. Key Responsibilities Provide strategic and operational leadership
  • Partner directly with the VP Research and Inflammation Leadership Team to define, execute, and track TA strategy, annual goals, long-range priorities, and operating mechanisms.
  • Translate strategic priorities into measurable goals, action plans, milestones, KPIs, and accountability frameworks that improve decision-making and execution across the TA.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and thought partner on portfolio, organizational, capability, and investment decisions.

  • operational issues into clear action plans, cross-functional initiatives
  • decision-ready deliverables. Operationalize portfolio governance and planning Enable effective portfolio governance by coordinating the processes, analytics, operating mechanisms

  • Coordinate TA-level technology, AI, computational, and innovation initiatives that strengthen research strategy, portfolio execution, and scientific decision-making.
  • Partner with scientific leaders to identify capability gaps, evaluate innovation opportunities, and encourage adoption of emerging technologies and best practices.
  • Leverage AI-enabled tools and operational systems to improve portfolio management, project reviews, knowledge synthesis, decision support, and operating efficiency.
  • Support external collaborations by helping track scientific progress, milestones, budgets, risks
  • decision points in partnership with scientific and business stakeholders. Enhancing organizational effectiveness and culture
  • Drive leadership team effectiveness, operating cadence, and cross-functional alignment across the Inflammation TA.
  • Lead high-priority special projects involving organizational design, talent strategy, capability building, change management, and operational improvement.
  • Contribute to a strong scientific culture by supporting planning offsites, seminar series, topical symposia, training, staff profiles, mentoring connections, and other engagement mechanisms.
  • Establish practical processes, tools, and ways of working that improve transparency, accountability, learning, and execution across the TA. Lead business operations and executive communications
  • Coordinate budgeting, resource planning, headcount management, and scenario analyses in partnership with Finance, HR, Research Operations, and TA leadership.
  • Coordinate talent management processes, including hiring, promotions, workforce planning, and related personnel actions.
  • Develop executive-level presentations, business reviews, strategic communications, governance materials, portfolio reviews, and leadership updates.
  • Communicate strategic priorities, decisions, progress, risks

Basic Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree and 2 years of biotech/pharma-related management, project management
  • strategic operations experience OR Master’s degree and 4 years of biotech/pharma-related management, project management
  • strategic operations experience OR Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of biotech/pharma-related management, project management
  • strategic operations experience OR Associate’s degree and 10 years of biotech/pharma-related management, project management
  • strategic operations experience OR High school diploma / GED and 12 years of biotech/pharma-related management, project management
  • strategic operations experience Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, portfolio management, governance, operations, budgeting, resource planning
  • performance management in an R&D organization.
  • Scientific credibility and ability to synthesize complex scientific, operational, and business information into actionable recommendations for senior leaders.
  • Strong executive presence and ability to serve as a trusted thought partner to senior leaders, scientific teams, and business partner functions.
  • Experience leading and influencing cross-functional teams in a global, matrixed, rapidly changing environment with a high tolerance for ambiguity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of executive presentations, business reviews, governance materials, and strategic communications.
  • Experience with change management, organizational effectiveness, talent planning, leadership team operating cadence, and culture-building initiatives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience developing KPI dashboards, risk assessments, decision frameworks, and portfolio/resource analyses.
  • Passion for innovation, technology, AI-enabled discovery, operational excellence, and new ways of working that improve scientific quality and speed.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Smartsheet, collaboration tools, data visualization tools, and AI-enabled productivity or knowledge-synthesis tools.

  • Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
