The Opportunity We have an immediate opportunity for an Accountant in our St. Paul, MN location. As the Accountant , you will support day-to-day accounting operations within a Shared Services environment, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant delivery of accounting activities in accordance with established service levels.
This role requires independent execution of period‑end close activities, strong technical accounting skills, strong attention to detail, collaboration across teams, RDA (robotics desktop automation) experience, and a continuous improvement mindset.
What You'll Work On: Preparation, analysis and posting of journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, payroll, and merchandise-related transactions. Execute period‑end close activities, including balance sheet reconciliations, trial balance analysis and commentary, and reporting preparation and distribution.
Review and approve journal entries prepared by our third-partner shared service organization to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal controls. Execute scheduled and on-demand accounting RDA bots in Power Automate to ensure automated tasks run accurately on time, and in compliance with established procedures.
Ensure ongoing compliance with SOX requirements, internal controls, Abbott corporate and divisional policies, and CFS departmental policies and procedures. Collaborate with FP&A, global accounting teams, and third‑party service providers to support the financial close, resolve issues, and improve processes.
Participate in projects and initiatives related to new processes, system implementations, continuous improvement efforts, and desktop robotics automation activities. Develop, maintain, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for assigned processes.
Respond to external and internal audit requests, SOX testing, tax requests, and daily ad-hoc requests. Required Qualifications : Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. Minimum of 2 years of progressive accounting experience. Prior experience in a large‑company Shared Services environment or cross‑division business unit model preferred.
Minimum of 1 year of experience operating RDA Bots or accounting automation tools
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs.
- Hands‑on experience working in SAP.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at multiple levels of the organization.
- Excellent organizational skills, high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and demonstrated problem‑solving ability.
- Ability to operate independently with general supervision and under challenging time constraints.
- Ability to apply knowledge of financial processes and accounting methodologies, interpret and understand data, identify risks, develop recommendations, implement solutions.
- Ability to convey communications clearly, concisely, and accurately.
