Venue Strategy Manager, Global Meetings Management What you will do Let’s do this. Let’s change the world! In this vital role you will lead our venue strategy, hotel sourcing, contracting, and supplier relationship management for Amgen's U.S.
Commercial internal meetings portfolio including large sales meetings, incentive programs, and executive leadership events. 1. Venue Strategy & Planning – 25% In support of the business objectives, partner with internal stakeholders on venue strategy recommendation and execution for U.S.
Commercial internal meetings, including national sales meetings, POAs, launch meetings, leadership summits, training programs, incentive programs, and other internal events. Partners with business and GMM leadership on strategy for complex sales meetings, executive meetings, leadership events, and incentive programs requiring elevated service and strategic venue selection.
Working with GMM leadership, develop hotel and preferred city strategies, forecast future venue needs, and identify opportunities to improve value across the meetings portfolio. 2. Stakeholder Management 20% Serve as a trusted advisor to meeting sponsors, Executive Directors, Vice Presidents, and Senior Vice Presidents on venue strategy, venue selection, and contract negotiations.
Partner directly with senior business leaders on long-term venue and hotel strategy for large sales meetings, executive meetings, incentive programs, and other high-profile internal events. Support future-state planning for major Commercial meetings, executive leadership events, and strategic incentive programs.
Partner closely with GMM Meeting Managers, logistics agencies, preferred AV partners, and other key suppliers to ensure venues support meeting design, production requirements, attendee experience, and execution needs. 3. Venue Selection, Contracting & Governance – 40% Provide governance and oversight of hotel contracting activities, ensuring venue agreements align with Amgen standards related to financial protection, risk mitigation, cancellation exposure, attrition management, and supplier performance.
Lead hotel sourcing and contract negotiations for assigned meetings and events. Manage Requests for Proposal (RFPs), venue evaluations, supplier negotiations, and final venue recommendations. Negotiate pricing, concessions, attrition terms, cancellation clauses, and other contractual protections.
Develop and manage multi-year agreements with hotel partners and venue suppliers. Ensure venue selection and contracting activities align with Amgen policies, financial objectives, and compliance requirements. 4. Supplier Relationship Management -10% Serve as the primary relationship manager for hotel chains, national sales organizations, destination marketing organizations, convention bureaus, and venue partners.
Develop strategic hotel partnerships that enhance value, consistency, and service quality. Monitor venue supplier performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement. Point of contact for any hotel contract governance or risk management questions for logistics agencies. 5.
Program Optimization & Innovation – 5% Utilize meetings and spend data to identify venue strategy opportunities, market trends, and operational efficiencies. Drive continuous improvement in venue selection processes, supplier engagement, and negotiation strategies.
Identify opportunities to centralize venue strategy and increase value across Amgen's meetings portfolio. Partner across GMM, Finance, Procurement, and business functions to support long-term venue planning initiatives. Basic Qualifications
- High school/GED + 15 years of experience in hotel sourcing, venue strategy, strategic meetings management, hospitality, or related fields.
- OR Associate’s + 10 years of experience in hotel sourcing, venue strategy, strategic meetings management, hospitality
- related fields OR Bachelor’s + 8 of experience in hotel sourcing, venue strategy, strategic meetings management, hospitality
- related fields work experience Preferred Qualifications: Experience presenting recommendations and influencing decisions with senior leadership.
- Experience supporting large-scale Commercial meetings, sales meetings, executive meetings, leadership events, or incentive programs.
- Demonstrated experience negotiating hotel contracts and multi-year supplier agreements.
- Experience partnering with Executive Directors, Vice Presidents, and Senior Vice Presidents.
- Strong supplier relationship management and negotiation skills.
- Knowledge of hotel industry trends, sourcing practices, and venue contracting.
- Experience working within life sciences, healthcare, or highly regulated industries preferred.
- Proficiency with CVENT and other meeting management technologies.
