About The Team
Formic’s Finance team enables disciplined growth across our Robotics-as-a-Service platform. The team oversees capital strategy, treasury, credit, financial operations, compliance, accounting, and investor engagement. As Formic scales nationally, Finance ensures capital is deployed intelligently, portfolio performance remains strong, and the company maintains long-term financial resilience.

About The Role
- Formic is seeking an Accounting & Audit Consultant to play a critical role during a pivotal stage of the company’s growth and evolution. As Formic continues to scale, we are strengthening our accounting infrastructure, formalizing processes
- preparing the organization for its first financial audit. This role will be at the center of that effort.
- As part of the Finance and Accounting team, you will help drive audit readiness, support the company through its first audit, prepare for future audit cycles
- strengthen the month-end close process. This is a highly visible, hands-on opportunity to make a lasting impact on how accounting and financial operations are built and scaled at Formic. This is a 6-month contract position, starting immediately through the end of the year.

- a willingness to roll up your sleeves. You will work across audit preparation, financial reporting, reconciliations, documentation
- process design—helping establish the foundational accounting practices that will support Formic's next phase of growth.
- The ideal candidate brings prior audit experience and is comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy. You have experience navigating ambiguity, creating processes from the ground up
- helping organizations mature their accounting and compliance capabilities. You're equally comfortable tackling detailed accounting work and driving broader process improvements

In This Role You Will
- Audit Support & Readiness
- Support Formic through its first financial audit, including preparation of audit schedules, account support, reconciliations, and documentation
- Help respond to auditor requests and coordinate supporting materials across systems and stakeholders
- Identify gaps in audit readiness and make practical improvements to documentation, workflows, and recurring support files
- Support preparation for the 2026 audit cycle by helping create scalable, repeatable processes
- Month-End Close & General Ledger Accounting
- Support the month-end close process, including preparation of journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Help improve the accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of close deliverables
- Support financial reporting activities - internal reporting schedules and management reporting support
- Help identify and resolve accounting discrepancies, open items, and process gaps
- Accounting Operations & Process Improvement
- Assist with process improvements related to reconciliations, accruals, expense classification, close management, and documentation
- Create and maintain clear documentation for recurring accounting processes
- What makes you a great fit:
- Required
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including general ledger accounting, month-end close, journal entries, and account reconciliations
- Experience supporting financial audits, audit readiness initiatives, or external auditor requests, with the ability to independently manage workstreams and identify process improvements
- Strong understanding of US GAAP and core accounting concepts
- Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills, including comfort working with supporting schedules and account reconciliations
- Ability to operate independently, manage multiple priorities, and drive work to completion
- Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and follow-through
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and project management skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Local to greater Chicago / Bolingbrook (with ability to work 3+ days/week in Bolingbrook)
- Preferred
- CPA or public accounting experience
- Experience with NetSuite, Xero, or similar accounting systems
- Experience improving close processes, accounting documentation, or audit support workflows
- Experience helping organizations prepare for a first-time audit or significantly enhancing audit readiness processes
- Experience creating accounting policies, procedures, and documentation from the ground up
- Experience building and scaling accounting processes in a high-growth or rapidly evolving environment
