We design and validate Surface and XBOX devices for high-speed interfaces such as Memory (DDR), Serial Buses (USB, DisplayPort, HDMI), PCIe, MIPI, etc. We drive functionality and quality of products through various simulation, design, and validation activities.

In this specific role of a Hardware Engineer , you will be an integral part of the Microsoft Signal Integrity Measurement team responsible for delivering signal integrity compliance through test and measurement for an exciting, cutting-edge family of Microsoft products.

This role is targeting an immediate start date. Responsibilities Performs Signal Integrity test and measurements for high-speed bus standards on each product. Determins the required industry test standards and specifications, test setups and measurements, ensuring that the tests are performed correctly, reporting, debugging product issues, developing capabilities for new and emerging standards, and maintaining test equipment.

Leads, establishes, implements, coordinates, and executes Signal Integrity test & validation plans throughout the development cycle of a product, tracking new developments in the industry with respect to SI compliance requirements and maintaining documentation.

VNA and TDR measurements of PCBs, cables/connectors including high-precision board (PCB) probing. Reviews product electrical design – schematics and board files. Creates & executes SI test and validation plans for products through their development cycle.

Performs compliance tests per industry standards – electrical, interoperability, protocol. Writes test reports. Develops test procedures for Signal Integrity testing. Debuggs product failures and test setups. Reworks PCBs. Maintains suitable test equipment.

Tracks the new developments in the high-speed industry with respect to Signal Integrity compliance requirements. Reviews simulation data and interpreting validation expectations. Qualifications Required/Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.

OR equivalent experience. Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter

Preferred Qualifications

  • A working knowledge of high-speed electrical design and RF principles.
  • Experience with VNA measurements and solid understanding of frequency domain measurement fundamentals (S-parameter extraction).
  • Understanding and experience with TDR measurements.
  • Experience and dexterity with micro-probing/board probing station for VNA measurements.
  • Hardware re-working and soldering expertise.
  • Experience with PDN measurements with VNA.
  • Experience with Keysight PLTS software.
  • Experience with High-Bandwidth scope measurements.
  • Understanding of high-speed signal interface standards such as DDR, USB2/3, DP, HDMI, PCIe, etc.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • A team orientation with reliable interpersonal awareness.
  • Reliable communication skills – written and verbal.
  • Proficent organization and documentation abilities. #W+DJOBS #EiP Hardware Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $85,400 - $168,100 per year.
  • There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area
  • the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $111,100 - $183,700 per year.
