What We're Doing At Synctera, we’re powering the future of FinTech. We help companies create new revenue streams and enhance their value proposition with FinTech apps and embedded banking products. With APIs, compliance support, and bank partners in one end-to-end Banking as a Service platform, Synctera is the fastest and easiest way to build, launch, and scale bank accounts, debit cards, charge cards, lending, and more.

We help banks increase deposits and non-interest income by expanding their footprint through FinTech and embedded finance partnerships. The Synctera Platform enables banks to manage their program through a fully compliant, scalable solution.

We are looking for interesting, curious, wickedly smart people who are ready to jump in and run with our fast-growing team. If you want to have fun at work, collaborate with some of the sharpest people in the industry, grow the FinTech and Banking as a Service ecosystem, and love to win, read on!

How We Build At Synctera, engineers do more than maintain existing systems. They help design and build new platform capabilities that directly shape how our products work and how the company scales. Our teams are small, which means senior engineers have real ownership: defining approaches, making technical tradeoffs, shipping production code, and improving systems over time.

You can move quickly from idea to production, and your decisions have visible impact on both the product and the platform. This role is a fit for someone who wants to build in a real-world, high-stakes environment: backend systems that need to be reliable, secure, scalable, and auditable because they support financial compliance and banking operations.

What We’re Looking For We’re looking for an Engineering Manager who can lead a small, experienced team doing high-ownership work in a regulated environment. This is not a role for someone who wants to sit above the work. It’s for someone who can help engineers make good decisions, keep teams focused through ambiguity, and stay close enough to the technical work to contribute when it makes sense.

This role supports teams building both customer-facing compliance products and the core platform capabilities that power them. The work spans data-intensive systems for automated compliance monitoring and control testing, as well as foundational platform services such as tenant management, event and webhook infrastructure, API ingress and egress, and other shared capabilities used across engineering.

The right person for this role can turn ambiguous problems into a clear plan, make practical tradeoffs, and keep teams focused on the work that matters most. We are not looking for someone who only manages from a distance or relies on generic leadership language.

We are looking for someone who has actually led backend or platform teams, improved how they operate, and worked in systems where correctness, reliability, and operational judgment matter. What We Build With Our backend services are primarily written in Go.

Our frontend is React with TypeScript. We run on Google Cloud Platform and commonly work with Postgres, Redis, Pub/Sub, Kubernetes, Cloud Run, Terraform, and OpenAPI-based service contracts. What You’ll Do Lead and develop engineers across multiple backend and platform teams, including coaching, performance feedback, hiring, and day-to-day prioritization Turn ambiguous work into a clear execution plan and keep that plan aligned with product, engineering, and business stakeholders Partner closely with engineers on architecture and technical tradeoffs across customer-facing products and the shared platform services that support them Stay close enough to the technical work to review approaches, unblock decisions, and contribute code when it makes sense Support teams building reliable backend and platform systems, including event-driven services, operational workflows, internal tooling, shared infrastructure, and data-intensive applications Improve how the team works by tightening scope, raising execution quality, and ensuring engineers have the context they need to move quickly Work cross-functionally with product, compliance, and other engineering teams to surface risks early and keep delivery grounded in business needs Help the team balance roadmap commitments with platform maintenance, operational responsibilities, and long-term investments in reliability, scalability, and engineering quality What You’ll Bring 8+ years of professional experience as a software engineer 3+ years of experience directly managing engineers, including coaching, performance feedback, and hiring involvement Experience leading backend or platform teams working on systems with real operational complexity Strong proficiency in Go, with hands-on experience building and maintaining production systems Enough technical depth to contribute to architecture discussions, challenge assumptions, and jump into the code when useful Experience navigating ambiguous problems and turning them into clear plans, priorities, and tradeoffs Good judgment around scope, sequencing, and risk, especially when work spans multiple stakeholders or competing demands A track record of being accountable for team output, not just individual contribution Experience in fintech, banking, infrastructure, developer tooling, or other regulated systems is strongly preferred Comfort working in environments where reliability, compliance, auditability, and operational risk matter Benefits 100% employer paid medical, dental, and vision benefits for US and Canadian employees and dependents Employer contribution to HSA for US employees Annual HCSA and generous extended health care coverage for Canadian employees and dependents 401(k) for US employees and RRSP for Canadian employees Mental health resources available for all employees Unlimited paid time off Generous paid new parent leave program Home office setup stipend Stock options program for all employees Growth potential and opportunity to have a significant impact at an early stage of our company's journey Working alongside a skilled and passionate team Diversity & Inclusion Synctera is committed to having a workforce that is reflective of the diversity within the United States and Canada.

As an equal opportunity employer, we encourage applications from candidates from underrepresented communities, Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, persons of diverse sexual orientation and gender identity, and all those who can provide different perspectives and contribute to the diversification of Synctera.
