Job Summary We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and support scalable, cloud-native applications hosted on AWS.

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in backend development using Java, Kotlin, Spring Boot, and Microservices architecture , along with deep experience in building high-performance distributed systems and working with both relational and NoSQL databases.

In this role, you will be expected to provide technical leadership, drive architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, reliable, and scalable solutions. What You'll Do Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using Java, Kotlin, Spring Boot, and Microservices architecture .

Lead the design and implementation of cloud-native solutions on AWS , ensuring high availability, performance, and security. Drive architecture discussions and technical decisions for new features and platform enhancements. Design and optimize data models, queries, and integrations across PostgreSQL, MySQL, and DynamoDB environments.

Develop event-driven and asynchronous processing solutions using modern distributed system patterns. Collaborate with Product Owners, Architects, DevOps, QA, and other engineering teams to deliver high-quality software solutions. Perform code reviews, enforce engineering best practices, and provide technical mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers.

Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues, performance bottlenecks, and scalability challenges. Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, logging, and observability solutions. Contribute to technical documentation, architectural designs, and operational runbooks.

Champion software engineering best practices, including testing, API governance, security, and DevOps methodologies. What You Will Have Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

Software Development: Knowledge of software development tools and activities; ability to produce software products or systems in line with product requirements. Software Development Life Cycle: Knowledge of software development life cycle; ability to use a structured methodology for delivering and managing new or enhanced software products to the marketplace.

Software Product Design/Architecture: Knowledge of software product design; ability to convert market requirements into the software product design. Software Product Technical Knowledge: Knowledge of technical aspects of a software products; ability to design, configure and integrate technical aspects of software products.

What You'll Bring Software development experience building enterprise-grade backend applications. Strong proficiency in Java 11+ , Spring Boot, REST APIs, and Microservices architecture. Proven experience designing and supporting applications on AWS .

Strong hands-on experience with the following databases ( required ): PostgreSQL MySQL DynamoDB Experience with database design, query optimization, indexing strategies, and performance tuning. Strong understanding of distributed systems, scalability patterns, and high-availability architectures.

Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git-based development workflows, and infrastructure automation. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills. Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively collaborate with technical and business stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, plus 8+ years of professional software development experience. Experience building and supporting large-scale cloud-native applications in AWS.

Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes . Experience with messaging and event-streaming platforms such as Kafka, Kenisis, SNS/SQS, or EventBridge . Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development practices.

Top Candidates Will Also Have Experience with front-end technologies such as Angular, React, HTML, CSS, and TypeScript . Experience with Kotlin . Experience migrating applications or data between relational and NoSQL databases. Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, or Kibana .

AWS Certifications such as: AWS Certified Developer – Associate AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or Professional Experience leading technical initiatives, mentoring engineers, and driving engineering excellence across teams. Summary Pay Range: $112,710.00 - $183,140.00 Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar
