Title and Summary Senior Accountant Overview: This position is a regional position and will report into the Eastern Europe Middle East Africa (“EEMEA”) Divisional controller.
The position oversees the legal entities and rebates and incentives for division of EEMEA with a specific focus on accounting, tax compliance, financial reporting, corporate reporting and external statutory audits. As the EEMEA business continues to grow and particularly as new offices are being setup, the incumbent will be required to support such setups and ensure that accounting processes and relevant controls are implemented.
Role: 1. Responsible for all aspects of local statutory financial reporting, management reporting, a degree of budgeting and forecasting and generation of metrics to guide strategic decision making. 2. Specific focus on the financial reporting within the MEA division including the financial accounting of revenue, contra revenue and expenses.
This will include the review of month end closing activities, analysis, and reporting. 3. Play an integral role in the external audit of each applicable legal entities to ensure that the financial statements of these are accurate and free of material misstatement; and that the external audit reports are unqualified. 4.
Lead and contribute to the successful execution of strategic projects aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and driving business growth. Support entity setup in Oracle, banking accounts setup, GL account setup etc. 5. Ensures a strong control environment by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing operational and SOX controls based on corporate guidelines and general governance standards.
Partner with External Consultants, Regional Support groups and GBSC to provide advisory support to the business teams in regard to accounting and controls. 6. Support and analyze the accounting implications of setting up new offices in the EEMEA region in line with MasterCard processes and standards. 7.
Collaborate with the relevant regional teams to ensure ongoing compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements; anticipated future legislations that may impact filing financial reports. 8. Manage the third parties involved in ensuring compliance with local statutory reporting requirements and continually assesses the optimal use of third parties. 9.
Oversight of intercompany transactions between the parent and group companies and the local company in collaboration with the Tax team, i.e. dividend repatriation, cost plus arrangements, etc. 10. Ensure accounting is correct as well as corresponding agreements/documentation is retained per local regulations. 11.
Oversight of the Bank account administration and Controllership related AP Payments in coordination with Corporate Treasury and the Shared Services Center (GBSC). Ensure strict compliance with the Central Bank requirements for currency controls on international transactions. 12.
Support the EEMEA Divisional Controller with Region-wide controllership initiatives, for example:. Support the relevant Operational Risk Management projects, Balance sheet and PL reconciliations, policy revisions and implementations, assist the expansion effort in EEMEA from a finance perspective, Training EEMEA business teams on controllership policies, Assist ad hoc projects or analyses as required from time to time Strive for excellence in all areas and drive continuous business process and systems improvements.
All About You: Essential: Chartered Accountant or CPA equivalent qualification Relevant qualification in business, accounting and/or a related discipline In-depth understanding of US GAAP and IFRS as well as external audit experience is essential A sound understanding of the diverse cultural, regulatory, statutory and taxation environment of the EEMEA region Strategic thinker, detail orientated, and results driven with a focus on excellence Candidate needs to be hands-on, be self-driven and able to work in a dynamic and fast changing environment Able to adjust to changing processes and systems – should be agile to adapt e.g. changing accounting system will change established work procedures Desirable: A high standard of proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of applications especially Excel Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills as well as experience working in cross functional teams Strong relationship management and networking skills Tax experience across different jurisdictions Oracle knowledge is beneficial Corporate Security Responsibility All activities involving access to Mastercard assets, information, and networks comes with an inherent risk to the organization and, therefore, it is expected that every person working for, or on behalf of, Mastercard is responsible for information security and must: Abide by Mastercard’s security policies and practices; Ensure the confidentiality and integrity of the information being accessed; Report any suspected information security violation or breach, and Complete all periodic mandatory security trainings in accordance with Mastercard’s guidelines.
