Senior Risk Associate - Technology & Cyber Risk As a Senior Risk Associate within the Commercial Risk Technology & Cyber Risk team, you will be at the forefront of end-to-end risk management, driving strategic initiatives to identify, assess, and mitigate technology and cyber threats.
In this high-impact role, you will partner with cross-functional stakeholders to influence policy enhancements, evaluate control effectiveness, and lead remediation efforts that strengthen the company’s overall risk posture. By leveraging advanced project management, communication, and analytical skills, you will deliver data-driven solutions that protect our customers, shareholders, and associates while fostering an environment of continuous innovation and strategic resilience
Responsibilities
- Risk Assessment & Control Management Manage the full lifecycle of technology and cyber risk assessments for Commercial Bank
- drive the process from initial risk identification through to tactical implementation, remediation tracking, and formal closure.
- Partner with stakeholders to evaluate divisional and enterprise compliance against internal standards and external regulatory requirements; influence updates to policies, standards, and control descriptions.
- Apply a deep understanding of technology and cyber controls to proactively mitigate business risks; strategically optimize and align controls directly with technology processes.
- Engage project teams early to ensure IT standards and audit procedures are integrated into system changes and strategic technology initiatives before implementation.
- Look beyond individual risk findings to perform root cause analysis on recurring issues or events, identifying systemic vulnerabilities rather than just fixing one-off symptoms.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Advisory Build strong relationships with cross-functional business areas and other stakeholders to understand the impact of technology and cyber risk on critical business processes and build consensus on mitigation strategies.
- Ensure comprehensive coverage of shared controls and processes.
- Metrics, Reporting & Governance Leverage reporting tools to analyze diverse datasets, using metrics to inform risk policies, monitor the threat environment, and drive compliance toward target levels.
- Consolidate, align, and disseminate technology and cyber risk metrics to appropriately monitor the environment, providing leadership with clear visibility into escalating concerns.
- Serve as a point of contact for internal and external audit engagements, including preparation, coordination, and remediation response.
- Support the design and implementation of information-based risk governance, while refining frameworks for rapid, efficient cyber incident response
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or military experience At least 2 years in Cyber, Technology, Audit or Risk Management experience Preferred Qualifications: 1+ years of Project Management or Compliance Experience At least 3 years experience in Technology Risk Management, Cybersecurity Risk Management, IT Audit
- Information Security Governance At least 6 years of Financial Services, Commercial Banking
- a highly regulated industry Technology and/or Cybersecurity risk certifications such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) or related certifications Experience in performing Control Self Assessments (CSAs) Risk and Control Self Assessments (RCSA)
- completing assessments against established industry risk frameworks, including: the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
- Experience performing data analysis in support of internal risk assessments and control reviews Excellent verbal presentation and written communication skills to confidently interact with the cross-functional groups and enterprise stakeholders Excellent problem-solving, analytical and critical thinking skills to effectively respond to shifting priorities, demands and timelines At this time, Capital One will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position. #CommRisk The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location.

- Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
- Charlotte, NC: $87,700 - $100,100 for Sr.
- Risk Associate McLean, VA: $96,500 - $110,100 for Sr.
- Risk Associate Richmond, VA: $87,700 - $100,100 for Sr.
- Risk Associate Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location
- the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
- This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
- Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
