Job Summary Opportunity to join the ConocoPhillips Australia Team as HSE Coordinator – Industrial Hygiene & Safety based in either Brisbane or Gladstone. Position Overview The HSE Coordinator - Industrial Hygiene & Safety is responsible for delivering science-based health expertise and services to integrate worker health protection strategies across ABU operations.
Reporting to the HSE Programs Director, this position will engage with key operations, maintenance, engineering, and projects stakeholder to provide technical IH expertise to address HSE risk and ensure compliance. The coordinator will adapt to evolving business demands and is accountable for the industrial hygiene program elements of the Australia Business Unit Operating Management System that support workforce health and improve operational integrity and business performance.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: Deliver high-quality industrial hygiene services across ABU operations meeting operational needs and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and industry best practices.
Promote individual professional growth and operational efficiencies by developing HSE team and site-based personnel to assist in sampling planning and obtaining samples. Ensure quality assurance of hygiene and analytical services. Coach and mentor health professionals (nurses, medics) on industrial hygiene principles and act as a subject matter expert for other disciplines.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed health priorities into operational practices. Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive, outcome-focused Health plan. Champion a Learner Mindset to foster a culture of diversity, inclusivity and psychological safety where continuous improvement and innovation are encouraged.
Build collaborative relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels while promoting open dialogue to help identify more efficient, effective ways of working that contribute directly to our success. Coordinate health risk assessments (HRAs) for new and modified facilities, MOC reviews, and projects.
Act as a team member on incident reviews to ensure quality investigations are occurring. Stay current on changing regulations and policy regarding permissible exposure levels, and may act as a contact for legislative advocacy efforts Support Emergency Response efforts by helping to liaise with appropriate agencies and contractors, as needed.
May act as Safety Officer on the IMT. You will bring to the role Cultural alignment with ConocoPhillips’ SPIRIT Values. Tertiary level qualification or higher (bachelor’s degree or higher) in Industrial Hygiene or related science discipline (Chemical, Physics, Biology, etc.).
Postgraduate qualifications in Occupational Hygiene. Certified Occupational Hygienist (COH) with the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygiene (AIOH), or equivalent. 7+ years’ industrial hygiene experience, with a minimum of 3 years’ field experience in oil and gas or similar high-risk environments.
Thorough understanding of local and regional legislative requirements regarding workplace health and safety. Proven experience in implementing worker health protection programs with measurable outcomes. Experience advising stakeholders on industrial hygiene requirements aligned with business and/or functional needs and priorities.
Strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to build trust and collaborate effectively. Proven ability to plan, organise and deliver multiple concurrent priorities, driving continuous improvement and outcomes.
Ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies, particularly in data and analytics contexts. Passion for health management, coupled with a strong commitment to safety leadership and personal accountability, driving meaningful impact on workforce health and wellbeing.
Preferred Master's degree in occupational safety, Industrial Hygiene / Public Health, engineering, physical / biological science, or related HSE field Expert knowledge of HSE and Operations Management Systems – both development of the procedures and processes used as well as administering the programs. 3+ years of experience in leading and participating in Tier 2 and Tier 3 audits with accountability for development and execution of actions to remedy audit findings Experience with business intelligence tools such as Power BI What We Offer An inclusive environment of belonging where we respect one another and where our success reflects the diverse backgrounds, experiences, ideas and perspectives of our employees.
