Team Overview The Loop Engineering Team is building Target's intelligent planning and orchestration platform that transforms high-level business intent into executable workflows. Loop acts as the decisioning layer within our automation ecosystem, enabling teams to decompose complex problems, orchestrate AI agents and tools, and automate workflows across enterprise systems.
The platform empowers teams to design, execute, and scale intelligent workflows in a secure, governed, and highly observable environment. Role Overview As a Senior Engineer on the Loop team, you will design and build core platform capabilities that power task decomposition, agent orchestration, workflow generation, and execution monitoring.
You will work at the intersection of distributed systems and AI/GenAI to create intelligent, reliable, and enterprise-grade automation solutions. Key Responsibilities Design and develop scalable backend services for planning, orchestration, and workflow execution Build systems for task decomposition, tool selection, and agent coordination Integrate LLMs and AI agents into production-grade workflows with strong reliability and guardrails Develop APIs and platform services that enable teams to create and manage intelligent workflows Ensure platform capabilities meet enterprise standards for security, governance, and observability Collaborate with product, data science, and enterprise architecture teams to define and deliver platform features Optimize system performance, scalability, and cost efficiency in a cloud-native environment Contribute to best practices for building agentic and AI-driven systems Required Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field 4+ years of experience in backend or platform engineering Strong programming skills in Java, Kotlin, or Python Experience building distributed systems and microservices architectures Familiarity with REST APIs, event-driven systems, and cloud-native technologies Understanding of system design, scalability, and reliability principles Experience working in agile, cross-functional engineering teams Preferred Qualifications Experience with AI/ML or GenAI systems, including LLM integrations Familiarity with workflow orchestration or distributed execution systems Experience designing agent-based or decisioning systems Knowledge of observability, monitoring, and governance in enterprise platforms Frontend experience with React or Angular is a plus Experience with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure) What You'll Work On Building the core planning engine that converts user intent into structured workflows Developing orchestration layers for AI agents and enterprise tools Creating intelligent systems that are adaptive, explainable, and scalable Enabling teams across Target to adopt agent-driven automation at scale
