About the Role The ServiceNow Architect is responsible for defining and governing the enterprise ServiceNow platform strategy, architecture, and technical roadmap.
This role partners closely with business stakeholders, process owners, application teams, and IT leadership to ensure ServiceNow solutions align with enterprise objectives, industry best practices, and platform governance standards. Serving as the technical authority for the ServiceNow platform, the ServiceNow Architect provides leadership across all phases of solution delivery, including architecture, implementation, integration, optimization, and platform modernization.
This individual guides the adoption of emerging capabilities, including AI-powered automation and Now Assist, while ensuring solutions remain scalable, secure, maintainable, and aligned with long-term enterprise architecture goals. The Architect also serves as a trusted advisor to developers, administrators, business analysts, and project teams, driving platform consistency, technical excellence, and continuous improvement across the organization.
Key Responsibilities Platform Architecture & Strategy Define and maintain the enterprise ServiceNow architecture roadmap. Establish platform governance, development standards, and solution design guardrails. Lead solution architecture for new ServiceNow capabilities, enhancements, and platform expansions.
Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, maintainable, and aligned with enterprise architecture standards. Evaluate new ServiceNow products, platform releases, store applications, AI capabilities, and automation technologies, and develop adoption strategies.
Drive platform standardization, application portfolio rationalization, and reduction of technical debt. Solution Design Lead architecture and solution design sessions with business stakeholders and technical teams. Translate business requirements into scalable ServiceNow solutions and platform capabilities.
Design enterprise workflows, automation strategies, and digital transformation initiatives. Review and approve technical designs, customizations, integrations, and data models. Define and govern CMDB architecture aligned with Common Service Data Model (CSDM) standards, service mapping strategies, and data governance requirements.
Promote the use of ServiceNow best practices and out-of-the-box capabilities while minimizing unnecessary customization. Platform Governance & Technical Leadership Establish development, testing, deployment, release management, and platform governance standards.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to developers, administrators, and platform support teams. Conduct architecture reviews, code quality assessments, and platform health evaluations. Ensure compliance with security, audit, risk, and organizational governance requirements.
Serve as the final escalation point for complex technical challenges and platform decisions. Lead technical design authority reviews and architecture governance forums. Define enterprise patterns for identity management, security, monitoring, integrations, and data exchange.
Platform Operations & Optimization Oversee platform performance, scalability, availability, reliability, and overall health. Guide platform upgrades, patching strategies, release planning, and environment management practices. Develop governance strategies for multi-instance environments and platform lifecycle management.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives across ServiceNow capabilities, including ITSM, ITOM, ITAM, SAM, SPM, HRSD, CSM, GRC, and custom applications. Identify opportunities to leverage automation, AI, AIOps, predictive intelligence, and workflow optimization to improve business outcomes.
Basic Qualifications Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field required; equivalent combination of education and professional experience may be considered. 8+ years of ServiceNow experience, including architecture and solution design responsibilities, including 5+ years designing enterprise-scale ServiceNow solutions.
ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) certification required. ServiceNow Certified Application Developer (CAD) certification required. At least two ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS) certifications relevant to the environment (e.g., ITSM, Discovery, CSM, HRSD, SPM, or CMDB/CSDM Foundations) required.
Experience supporting large-scale, complex, or multi-instance ServiceNow environments. Experience working within Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD delivery models. ServiceNow Platform Architecture & Governance: Strong knowledge of ServiceNow platform architecture, development frameworks, and underlying data models.
Expertise with ServiceNow capabilities including ITSM, CMDB/CSDM, Service Catalog, Service Portal, Change Management, Incident Management, and Request Management. Experience with Flow Designer, Integration Hub, Performance Analytics, Automated Test Framework (ATF), and Reporting.
Strong understanding of platform governance, architecture standards, security best practices, and enterprise solution design principles. Technical Knowledge & Core Competencies: Experience designing secure integrations and enterprise architecture patterns using APIs, Integration Hub, and modern authentication frameworks.
Knowledge of security, risk, compliance, and governance principles as they relate to enterprise platform architecture. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to lead architecture discussions with technical and executive stakeholders.
Ability to balance business objectives, technical requirements, and platform best practices when developing solution strategies. Preferred Qualifications ServiceNow Certified Technical Architect (CTA) or Certified Master Architect (CMA). Architecture Excellence (ArchX) accreditation.
ITIL v4 Foundation certification. Security certification such as CompTIA Security+ or CISSP. Experience with AIOps, Predictive Intelligence, Now Assist, or generative AI capabilities within the ServiceNow platform. Experience in highly regulated or complex industries such as healthcare, financial services, government, or manufacturing.
Cloud platform experience supporting hybrid integration architectures, including AWS, Azure, or GCP. Experience leading a Technical Design Authority, architecture review board, or enterprise governance committee. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Hybrid or office-based work environment; occasional onsite presence may be required for governance reviews, architecture workshops, or major initiatives.
Periodic availability outside standard business hours to support platform upgrades, releases, and major incident response activities. Ability to remain at a workstation for extended periods while designing solutions, reviewing technical documentation, and participating in architecture reviews.
Occasional travel (up to 10%) may be required for stakeholder meetings, workshops, or governance-related activities. Additional Compensation: KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation.
Additional compensation may be in the form of sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short term incentives, long term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance
