Who we are looking for State Street’s Wealth Custody & Clearing business is seeking multiple Assistant Vice Presidents, Software Engineers to join our growing Technology organization. These are hands-on engineering roles responsible for designing, developing, testing, and supporting modern software capabilities across our wealth custody and clearing platform.
We are seeking engineers with experience in senior backend development, software development engineering, API-driven platforms, distributed systems, cloud-enabled development, and enterprise application delivery. Successful candidates will help build resilient, scalable, secure, and production-grade technology solutions supporting advisor, brokerage, custody, clearing, trading, onboarding, servicing, and operational workflows.
This role is intended to support multiple engineering needs across the platform. Final team alignment may vary based on candidate experience and business priorities, including backend engineering, full-stack development, API and integration engineering, platform engineering, or cloud-native application development.

Software Engineers are critical to delivering the digital capabilities, services, integrations, and operational workflows required to support a highly regulated, transaction-oriented wealth platform. This role is important because WC&C requires strong engineering execution across core platform services, client and advisor experiences, third-party integrations, data movement, workflow automation, and production resiliency.
The selected candidates will help ensure the platform is built with the right foundation for scale, security, reliability, observability, and long-term maintainability. What you will be responsible for As an Assistant Vice President, Software Engineer, you will: Design, develop, test, and deploy enterprise-grade software solutions supporting the Wealth Custody & Clearing platform Build scalable backend services, APIs, integrations, and platform capabilities that support custody, clearing, onboarding, trading, servicing, reporting, and advisor workflows Develop cloud-enabled and API-first solutions using modern engineering practices, secure coding standards, and strong software design principles Partner with Product, Architecture, Operations, Risk, Compliance, and Engineering teams to translate business requirements into high-quality technical solutions Contribute to technical design reviews, architecture discussions, engineering standards, and platform delivery decisions Support integration initiatives with external fintech, custody, clearing, broker-dealer, and market infrastructure providers Ensure solutions meet expectations for performance, resiliency, security, observability, auditability, data integrity, and operational readiness Participate in Agile delivery processes, including estimation, sprint planning, development, testing, release readiness, deployment, and production support Troubleshoot complex technical issues, support root cause analysis, and contribute to continuous platform improvement Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of engineering excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement What we value These skills will help you succeed in this role: Strong software engineering fundamentals with a focus on secure, scalable, maintainable, and well-tested solutions Hands-on experience building production-grade applications, backend services, APIs, or distributed systems in complex enterprise environments Ability to connect technical decisions to business outcomes and deliver practical solutions in a highly regulated operating environment Strong collaboration and communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders Comfort navigating ambiguity, solving complex problems, and contributing to a fast-moving platform buildout Ownership mindset with a commitment to resiliency, quality, documentation, and operational excellence Education & Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field; equivalent professional experience will also be considered 7+ years of software engineering, backend engineering, or application development experience with progressively increasing responsibility Experience delivering business-critical applications in Agile software development environments Hands-on experience with modern programming languages such as Java, Kotlin, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, or similar technologies Experience with RESTful APIs, microservices, distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and enterprise integration patterns Experience with cloud-enabled development, CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, automated testing, and modern software delivery tooling Experience with relational databases, NoSQL databases, messaging platforms, observability tools, monitoring, logging, and performance optimization preferred Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, cloud platforms, or containerized application deployment preferred Financial services experience preferred; wealth management, brokerage, custody, clearing, trading, fintech, advisor platforms, or transaction processing experience considered a plus Additional requirements We are seeking multiple engineers across senior backend engineering and software development engineering disciplines.
Candidates may be aligned to backend services, full-stack application development, API and integration engineering, platform engineering, or cloud-native application development depending on business priorities and candidate experience. Candidates should be comfortable working in an enterprise technology environment where accuracy, resiliency, security, controls, documentation, and operational readiness are critical.
Experience supporting systems with high availability, fault tolerance, strong data integrity, and production support expectations is strongly preferred. Work Requirement Hybrid work requirement and hiring location to be confirmed based on business need, role alignment, and approved requisition details Standard business hours are expected, with flexibility required to support delivery milestones, production needs, and collaboration across locations Salary Range: $90,000 - $157,500 Annual The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified.
If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
