Competitive Unit Cost Advisor - Provider Contracting - Encore (Cigna Retiree Program) The Competitive Unit Cost Advisor helps review and explain Cigna’s cost position in local markets. This role analyzes cost data, verifies internal information for accuracy, and develops tools and reports to improve Cigna’s competitive cost position.

This person will work closely with Network Development and Competitive Insights, Contracting, Sales, Network Analytics, Medical Economics, Underwriting, Pricing, and other business partners. The goal is to help teams better understand cost trends by market, product, and provider.

This role supports Local Market Affordability and Total Medical Cost work. This includes reviewing discount data, risk-adjusted cost data, coordination of benefits information, and other internal and external data sources. The advisor will help compare past and future cost trends against plan goals, find reasons for differences, and identify areas for improvement.

Key Responsibilities Support analysis related to coordination of benefits, medical cost reporting, unit cost plans, hospital transparency, payer transparency, local market reviews, market and provider comparisons, and event planning. Present cost insights and analysis to Contracting and other business partners.

Review discounts by product, market, and type of medical expense to find trends. Check internal discount data and projected trends for accuracy. Review market unit cost positions and partner with leaders to find opportunities to lower medical costs.

Compare Cigna’s current unit cost position to competitors and create reports that show key findings. Partner with teams across the business to gather competitive data and understand market trends. Work with Pricing, Underwriting, and Sales to support accurate cost assumptions.

Help determine competitive unit cost positions for top priority markets. Create or support tools and reports that help markets reach cost goals. Review and summarize competitive data to help explain provider or market cost positions. Support special projects as needed.

Position Requirements Bachelor’s degree required; Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, or a related field preferred. 5+ years of medical cost analysis experience in managed healthcare required. 4+ years of financial analysis experience in managed care required.

Strong ability to review and understand both numbers-based and written provider data. Advanced Excel skills required. Strong communication, customer service, and relationship-building skills. Ability to influence internal and external partners.

Ability to work well in a team-based, matrixed environment. Strong analytical, technical, and project management skills. Ability to work with both high-level ideas and detailed data. Ability to improve data collection, reduce costs, and stay focused on results.

Strong understanding of managed care processes, data, systems, payment methods, provider information, and claims or utilization data. Ability to make sound recommendations, even when all information is not available. Experience with Contracting, Sales, Network Analytics, Medical Economics, Pricing, Underwriting, Financial Analysis, Competitive Intelligence, Coordination of Benefits, or Project Management is a plus.
