  • we are seeking a Principal Applied Scientist to set the scientific direction for what comes next. This position is based out of our SFO13 office in San Francisco, CA. In this role, you will be the technical authority for bringing large-scale, multimodal AI to Amazon devices and services. You will work at the intersection of LLMs, VLMs

  • PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with 7+ years of relevant research experience after degree
  • or Master's degree with 12+ years of equivalent experience * Proven track record of publications at top-tier venues, or an equivalent record of demonstrated technical impact * Deep expertise in one or more of: multimodal perception (computer vision, 3D tracking, pose, scene/activity understanding), real-time conversational understanding, or LLM/VLM modeling * Hands-on experience training and fine-tuning LLMs and/or VLMs * Experience taking multimodal models to production, including real-time, on-device, or low-latency inference * Proficiency in Python and C++, with experience writing production-grade code * Demonstrated ability to set technical direction and influence across multiple teams and organizations at a senior level
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in industry or academia * Track record of creating novel algorithms and advancing the state of the art, with peer-reviewed contributions in premier journals and conferences * Experience deploying large multimodal models on compute-constrained or edge hardware * Experience building cloud-edge hybrid AI systems * Experience designing large-scale real and synthetic data collection pipelines * Experience designing evaluation and benchmark frameworks for LLMs or VLMs * Experience with persistent memory, personalization, or socially-aware, context-driven agent behavior * Experience with embodied agents, robotics, human-AI interaction, or ambient intelligence systems * Familiarity with on-device inference frameworks (TensorRT, ONNX Runtime, Core ML, or similar) * Track record of rapid prototyping, taking ideas from paper to working demo quickly, and delivering high-stakes demonstrations to senior stakeholders * Strong written and verbal communication skills

Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
